can’t believe my data is still on here. I have neglected maintaining any kind of structured eating plan for a couple of years now. I’m back up to 275 pounds.
I have learned a whole lot over the last year-even though I have made no serious commitment to follow through on any particular diet plan. I did lose 40 pounds rather quickly on an intermittent fasting plan, but I gained it all back shortly after coming off the plan.
I’ll be 74 years old in a couple months, and although I am very healthy for a man 85 pounds overweight, I know I need to make a serious lifestyle change soon to avoid some unhealthy health consequences in the not so distant future.
When I look back over the advice that I have given as well as followed over the past few years, I realize that I wasn’t as smart as I thought I was. Since then, through experience and research, and studying books such as “The China Study,” I am convinced that my healthiest weight loss option is a combination of exercise, intermittent fasting, and a whole food plant based eating plan.
275.0 lb Lost so far: 0 lb.    Still to go: 85.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.
gaining 0.2 lb a week

I'm convinced of the benefits of whole plant foods, too. Weight loss aside, the nutritional benefits are tremendous. I wish you well with it 👍

It sounds like a good, thoughtful plan. But consider sustainability, too. What served me well in this most recent weight loss was deciding to make only those changes, in terms of what and how I’m eating, that I’m prepared to keep forever. I once tried a version of intermittent fasting, which involved skipping breakfast, and it worked to lose 30 lbs. But I wasn’t able to sustain it for more than three months and regained afterwards. So skipping breakfast can no longer be a part of my way of eating. On the other hand, I’m, too, eating more plants, and that feels very sustainable. It helps with calorie control as well as variety and enjoyment of food on daily basis.

Being very healthy is quite an accomplishment in itself. I'm doing intermittent fasting and am developing a plan for coming off it. I'm going to try doing IF intermittently and experiment with that. So after I do IF for awhile I'll go back to recommended weight loss calories and may even try interspersing IF with a couple of high calories days a week. My weight loss kept plateauing and staying there or gaining so I really needed to try something different. I am my own experiment.
