Smooth's Journal, 16 October 2009

There's nothing quiet as sobering as reality. I got a good dose of it this week when I heard this statistic: "Eating an addition 100 calories per day (beyond the caloric intake needed to sustain and keep the weight you want) will result in an additional 10 pounds for the year." Yikees!

That being said, I have another week behind me, and more pounds no longer on my behind! That's the good news.

The bad news is that a friend of mine died this week. I recall the doctor saying about his surgery: he had too much fat on his body for us to be able to find the problem. Yep, another sobering reality check.

Bottom line, this is all about changing my mindset, my paradigm, my way of being, which is the hardest and most difficult thing for human beings (we are great at technical changes but terrible at changing our core values). So much of bad eating is hardwired into our brains after years of abusive and stressful eating. Each day is an opportunity for creating new neural pathways in the brain so that old habits can die and new ones supersede them. It is one of the many reasons while I'm grateful for Fat Secret...a chance to write down everyday what I have been eat (easy right now) and hold myself accountable for what I consume. New ways of being...sounds great! Or as the old Weight Watchers commercial used to say: "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels!"
