Ok. Still headed in the right direction but sadly… it’s most definitely NOT just caloric deficiency that drives weight loss. If it were, I’d be down well over 15 lbs lower than I am now. It’s really hard to balance calorie deficit with adequate protein AND appropriate vegetables AND exercise to keep the engine running at high levels. Oh well, it took 40-50 years to get here… I can’t expect to fix all this in just a few months.
240.0 lb Lost so far: 24.0 lb.    Still to go: 32.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.

I agree it is not just caloric deficiency. It is also how it is achieved (the mix of diet and exercise) and how the body responds to it. My most stark example of that is when, on the same mix of diet and activity (same calories and the same level of (in)activity), I lost in a 4 week period almost all fat (12 lbs), followed by three weeks of losing 6 lbs of lean mass and almost no fat. My body fat percentage went up! That was quite an eye-opening experience and a big kick in the butt to do resistance exercise to hold on to my muscles (and to keep BMR from plummeting). My BMR was estimated to have dropped by 200 calories a day. Ugh.

Not so much. If I see myself not getting “enough” protein, I’ll microwave scramble an egg or mix up a protein shake midday.

I'm right there, too. I lost a lot of weight but unfortunately, I lost almost all of my muscle mass. I go to the doctor next week, so I'll get to see if I'm deficient in any vitamins. Good luck.

Check out the video I posted today. Dr. Mark Hyman discusses this, and I even identified the time in the video. It's a very pointed discussion that addresses just this question.

I once heard someone say overweight people didn't get there overnight, so don't expect changes overnight. I always have this in my mind when I get discouraged. it makes so much sense. Consistency pays off.

yep, establishing a baseline fitness level and keeping calories a few hundred over BMR eventually gives results. it's actually not that difficult it just requires change.

I believe it's definitely easier said than done. Motivation and the will to drive ourselves to get all of it done is #1.
