Was invited to Thanksgiving at a friends' family's spread — cooked by Bubba who started several local comfort food restaurants and does Thanksgiving Southern style.

My husband and I are proud of ourselves that we enjoyed the bounty, but stayed healthy and didn't get stuffed at all.

We had moderate portions of turkey, and just "taster" 1–2T of the various indulgent sides like hash brown casserole, green bean casserole with shoestring fried onion, cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes, gizzard gravy. My husband made an Optavia roasted green bean and mushroom dish so we could fill the empty parts of our plate with healthy. Our coach Chris provided us with the recipe for JUST this purpose! — thanks Chris, you were right on!

I even started my new habit-in-waiting of leaving bits of food on my plate, instead of my old (until day before yesterday) approach of eating every last crumb. It was *hard* to leave bits of that turkey and those yummy sides on the plate! But I did it, and it felt good! Felt like it strengthened some inner muscle haha.

We *did* both eat a small slice of red velvet bundt cake, which was a mistake. Red velvet cake is my fave. But it was not homemade, and really not that good — NOT worth the splurge. Oh well, it was pretty dinky. And I did leave the icing. Next time, know better.

Then after, we went for a wonderful fall walk in a nature area. This place is special to us because we started Optavia two years ago, in 2020, a few days before Thanksgiving. Everything was very new about the program. We made an Optavia Thanksgiving meal for just us. Then for our "treat," we drove out to the nature area and went for a walk on their long boardwalk through the cypresses. Now THAT feels a lot better than lying on the sofa groaning and regretting!
