yesterday we had our departmental picnic. I ate a healthy snack right before I left work to go to the picnic; when I got there, I had 1 burger, 1 hotdog, and no cookies or sweets. Then when the official picnic ended and everyone broke out the coolers of beer... instead of staying and drinking for 3 hours like I have for the last few years, I left right away.

When I got home, I rode my bike to Sleeping Giant where I went for a 2 hour hike. When I got back from the ~3 hrs of outdoor exercise on a beautiful afternoon, I was feeling really good about myself &my choices for the day. I ate a healthy dinner, ended up falling asleep early, and got a great night's sleep because I was so spent from all of the exercise.

I figure that between the exercise I did get, the beer calories I didn't take in and the junk food I would have eaten after a bunch of drinks, I easily saved myself at least the 3,500 calories in a Lb.

I woke up this morning feeling fantastic. My legs have that really good "all over sore" kind of feeling that you get after a good workout. I'm feeling motivated and have a pretty large "spring cleaning" type of project planned for this morning.

I had the whole thing mapped out before I even left the house in the morning... I knew that I wanted to eat the snack, limit the food, skip the beer, and go for the hike. This was the first time I can remember that I actually planned ahead to allow myself to make good choices and then followed through with the plan at the type of social event which normally sets me back. I'm really excited about how good I feel about this right now and what the precedent can mean for the long term and the future.
206.0 lb Lost so far: 4.0 lb.    Still to go: 26.0 lb.    Diet followed reasonably well.
