I am feeling very motivated. I hit the 10 pound mark today, one day short of 2 weeks following Atkins! Last night, I joined an old friend and a group of her friends for dinner & drinks at a Mexican restaurant. Despite the lack of a low-carb friendly menu, I managed to find some grilled tilapia and a salad. I also had 1 Mich Ultra (2.6 net carbs).

I get very frustrated when people criticize the Atkins diet, saying it's unhealthy because all we eat is meat & cheese or that we consume too many calories, etc. I eat healthier...protein and veggies, and no more than 4 oz of cheese per day.

The great thing about this site is that it does track my calories. I am taking in only about 1000 or so calories a day, which is a major part of the weight loss. I know that a low-fat, low-calorie diet will accomplish the same goal; however, for me the biggest obstacle to controlling my weight has always been dealing with my incessant cravings for sweets. Therefore, I HAVE to cut out refined sugar! Besides, it's horrible for your health and has anyone ever seen how sugar is made? It would probably cause you to quit eating it!

Certain other carbs, like pasta, flour, etc. cause me to overeat. Maybe it's psychological, though I think it's physiological, but whatever the reason, eating foods high in carbs/sugar cause me to binge. I've always likened the way I react to high carb foods as how I imagine an alcoholic reacts to alcohol...can't have just one drink. Well, I can't have just one cookie! And, when I eat these foods, I'm hungry shortly thereafter. I attempted Weight Watchers several times after Hannah was born. Each time I failed, because my cravings would kick in, and I was ALWAYS hungry.

The reason I tried Atkins (and was successful)6 years ago was because of what I'd read about controlling cravings. It worked then and it is working now. Unfortunately, I "fell off the wagon" and continued on a downward spiral all through my pregnancy and for 8 1/2 months after he was born, but now feel I'm back on track.
