Final Heaven's Journal, 18 August 2021

I was pretty disappointed with such a small loss this last week. I didn't even want to do my check-in but my fitness trainer friend assured me that starting a new exercise program as I did frequently causes your muscles to hold onto water with inflammation, and not to worry about it at all. I still have to combat the feelings of failure I associate with not losing weight like I feel like I should be. Even though I do not want to lose more than 2 pounds a week, losing only one pound made those old feelings of having done something wrong or shameful resurface, when logically I know I didn't. I don't know if I will ever get rid of the old tapes that play and tell me I am a pathetic person who can't control her weight, but I do try to push those destructive thoughts away and recognize this for what it is and address it with logic. It's a weird internal discussion that I have to have with myself regularly. Why can I see so clearly and positively when it comes to someone else's struggles with weight, but when it's me I become illogical and irrational. Why can't I be as kind to myself as I feel towards others?
Ok, rambling off!

Just keep doing it! 1 pound lost is better than one pound gained and your friend is right regarding the muscle. 💪🏼❤️

It's difficult for us to see our reflection as someone else sees us. We tend to hyperfocus on our imperfections. Unfortunately, as a result, we also tend to be unkind towards ourselves. More so when we change something about ourselves. I do the same as you, every day. I find that it helps to find joy in small victories. I try to not forget that I'm doing it to feel better, on the inside. Sometimes it can take a while to show up on the waistline. The most important part is don't forget to love you no matter what. Because that's why we do this in the first place, right? You got this, girl.

Yes! This is true, when I started soccer season every spring I would put on like 5 pounds in a week! Just from all of the exercise, it was crazy. But it was just water weight and my body’s adjustment. You will start seeing a drop in a week or so, just keep working out, it will drop off. Good luck!

it's a marathon not a sprint keep hammering and you will get there we all go through these feelings also I like to use measurements and pictures as a reference not just the scale because it gives you a better look at the whole picture

Yes, very good advice, kc911! I have my "before" pics from 3 1/2 weeks ago, and I measure and weigh every week for my fitness trainer friend who is helping me on this journey. These are good tools to help me see reason and reality!
