_TinaT_'s Journal, 18 May 2009

Well...today marks my first "official" week on SBD. So far I've lost 4lbs! I've been so good, haven't cheated ONCE. There were many temptations, let me tell you. This week when I went grocery shopping they were having a wine tasting...the first time I'd ever seen this store do wine tastings in the year I've been shopping there! Then yesterday our church had an ice cream social...ugh...and yesterday me and DH and DD went to eat at Cheeburger Cheeburger, and I wanted so desperately to eat just ONE french fry. But I DIDN'T!!!!!!!! I stuck with my turkey patty salad lol. I knew that if I had just ONE taste of something I wasn't supposed to I'd go spiraling down. Now I'm glad I didn't, after seeing a weight loss of 4lbs in one week! (Last Monday when I started SBD I weighed 154.4). I didn't realize how much I loved carbs and sweets until they were restricted in my diet lol. I've been finding creative ways to substitute things in recipes and finding SBD phase 1 approved "dessert" recipes. Not the same but it gets me through!!
150.2 lb Lost so far: 4.2 lb.    Still to go: 20.2 lb.    Diet followed 100%.

I had to do Mother's Day in phase 1. Let's here it for sugar free jello. I have a wedding coming up, too. I know myself too well to push it--spiraling down is a great way to put it. Congrats on a good first week.

You are doing incredible! Your results will be so rewarding that soon you wont want to wreck it for a stupid ice cream! Once you're allowed, there are other options anyway. Be sure to pay attention to the things that cause your cravings. I noticed I could not eat sugar free fudgepops..I just wanted more and more and more! So pay attention to what satisfies your cravings legally :-) and what causes cravings. You're rockin' it...way to go!

Thanks for the support...I can't wait to do phase 2 and have a LITTLE carbohydrates. Before starting the diet I was a brown rice, cereal, and bread kind of gal lol.

It's suggested when you go to phase 2 to add first, the thing you miss most. If it's your cereal, or whole wheat bread. I added whole wheat tortilla/wraps because I could make wraps out of them, I could make SB enchiladas, homemade tortilla chips, mini sb pizzas..all kinds of new dishes by adding only one new item.

Thanks, I'll have to look into the most "versatile" carb to add hehe. I do love my cereal though, Special K is my fave! But I might just do whole wheat tortillas, enchiladas sound YUMMY!

when you start phase 2 you want to add 1 item per day per week...so week 1 of phase 2 add in your brown rice if it triggers cravings or you seem to be hungry still change the time that you ate it...experiement each day with the brown rice...than week 2 add the rice (if you can still have it) and a fruit - mix up the times that you eat those until you know that they do not trigger hunger or cravings...and so on with week 3 and item three...it can be a fun process learning how your body reacts to each item at each different time...good luck

Hey, Veggies Yuk, clarification question. Your method of adding food in is different from what I read in the newest South Beach book. Is this a recommendation from the on-line site for people who have lots of craving issues? I'm just wondering. Georgia

this is what was said on another site that i belong too (before the new book) - even after the new book (i cannot remember the exact wording) you are supposed to "gradually reintroduce" "the biggest mistake people make is adding too much to soon" "ultimately ending with 2 good starches and 2 fruits indefinately - or if you still have cravings 3 fruits and less carbs - if you gain weight cut back" "days 1-7 1 fruit and 1 starch" day 8 2 starches and 1 fruit...if you add it up the one per day really kinda balances out by the end of the first month...hope this helps and doesn't confuse...sorry for being so long...

If it wasn't for reintroducing foods as slowly as I did, I would have never realized how oatmeal and some grains effect me. I also wouldn't have realized how yogurt sets me up for cravings. I am so thankful I took it slow. Because of my food sensitivities my doc recommend I take it extra slow, adding only one new item every 3-4 days. That was also how I learned that pork products made me hold onto weight. Wow, Tina, look at all the input your one journal has brought forth. :-)

Thanks ya'll, I will plan on introducing one carb and one fruit a day next week. Looking forward to it! Maybe that will be my motivation for sticking to phase 1, I have carbs to look forward to! lol. So glad my journal could be of help ;)
