I don't know how many of you out there suffer from depression, but I ran across an article that said Harvard had done a study showing that weight training was more effective than talk therapy for people who suffer from depression. Years of talk therapy have helped some, but have not been effective in the long run, as the depression always returns despite how much more aware I am of my issues. And don't even get me started on how useless therapy has been in managing my eating.
So I've joined a gym, and and going to try what I call the three Cs - Courage, Candor and Commitment. Today I'm committing to lose to 167 by April 22, and I'm going to reward myself with a night at the local hot tub/sauna - NOT FOOD!
My profile says I'm using Weight Watchers, but, frankly, WW are OBSESSED with food and that is not, in my opinion, a good mindset for getting fit and healthy. I will commit, however to eating 4 fruits and no less than 5 vegetables a day. Smaller portions, snacks after each meal, to keep me revved up without getting stuffed. And daily exercise, especially weight training, since muscle cells burn more calories at rest than fat cells.
Changing a long-held lifestyle takes courage, so wish me luck. I hope you appreciate my attempts to be candid in this journal.
