I went to dinner with most of my family to celebrate my husband's 25th birthday and my sister showed me the "My Fitness Pal" app. She told me all I have to do is answer a few questions to set it up. (weight now, weight goal, and gender)Then, It calculates how many calories you need to eat each day to stay healthy and lose weight. (or gain weight in some cases) It goes by an average healthy loss of 2 lbs/week. Each day you type in the food you had and hit search and it finds it for you. Even the tiniest things can be added on- condiments, k-cup brews, ect. What's so cool is if you eat pancakes for breakfast, and you only eat 2 1/2, so can EASILY change the amount by touching the amount of servings you had. If you're at a restaurant and you eat 3/4 of your place, just change it. It's so helpful! I can also add in the exercises that I've done that day and it will update how many calories I have left. For example, I had 400-something calories left for dinner, but we were going out to try a new restaurant, so I jumped on the elliptical for 20 mins and it added the calories I'd burned, so I ended up with 748 calories for dinner! I LOVE THIS APP!! It has also helped me make better choices. For example, I was getting hungry yesterday (and I admit a bit grouchy too) and I told Brian to pull over and some fast food place, I didn't care where b/c by the time we got home I'd be starving. He pulled into a McDonalds, so I just opened the app and searched McDonalds and it pulled up their entire menu I swear!! :) I settled on a side salad for 20 calories and a fruit and yogurt parfait for 100-something. When I got my salad, I couldn't believe the ranch was 170 calories by itself!! Good thing I only ate 1/8. Updated it and I was done. I've only been doing this for 1 day and I've lost .6 lbs! I know what some of you are thinking, "You shouldn't check your weight every day." Well I didn't. I haven't stepped on the scale in WEEKS, so I was checking it to see where I was, and I had to jump on fatsecret to see what my weight was before b/c it'd been so long that I couldn't remember. I'm not saying that I hadn't gained since I last weighed in on fatsecret, but if I had, then that just means I've lost even more! :) Oh, by the way, the app is FREE!!
