Weekly 36-hour fast number 10 complete.

This was a week of mixed success. I missed my weekly goal of being one pound lighter, and my secondary goal of not letting my the color of my progress bar switch back to orange. That said, I ended up only 0.2 pounds heavier, and back down in the yellow. Not exactly a success, but not the failure it could have been.

I started the week with good intentions: one day of relaxed limits on carb consumption, to have a little break and keep me motivated. All well and good. But then, two birthdays, two and a half large cupcakes, one piece of cake, and a bunch of other carbs later, I was up a few pounds by Saturday morning.

I decided to take tough action. Saturday was a super-low-calorie day, and I started my weekly fast a few hours early. It was painful, but today's weight was the result.

I don't think much of what I'd gained was fat. A lot of it was probably glycogen and water. That said, when your glycogen stores are full, you're not losing fat. It's not surprising, then, that I have no overall weight loss to show for this week.

Something else that occurred to me (not news, but something to keep in mind) is that the sugar I ate was empty calories, meaning that I didn't use that calorie room for food that would have nourished my body in other ways, with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, healthy fats, etc.

As an aside, much of the processed food we eat, including, for example, certain luncheon meats (and ham in general, even the unsliced variety, especially if "honeyed" etc.), is full of sugar. Opt for the least processed foods as often as possible (or even better, always), and (though this isn't news to FSers) always read the label.

Anyway, here's to a better coming week. My goal for this time next week is 185.4 lb. Onward and downward.
186.4 lb Lost so far: 13.8 lb.    Still to go: 11.4 lb.    Diet followed N/A.
losing 12.6 lb a week
