Although I seem to have gained weight instead of losing it may be explained by the fact that I am drinking a lot more water in the late evening than previously. I used to avoid drinking after supper having only enough to take my medications because I had thought water intake was causing me to wake up and pee 2 or 3 times during the night. In the last few weeks I read some opposite advice - that you should continue to drink water. I tried that and found that most nights now I actually sleep right through until morning. As I always weigh myself first thing in the morning perhaps this is the reason (she says hopefully!)

The reduced gluten intake seems to be having some unexpected (to me) benefits. I took my blood pressure today for the first time since trying to reduce my gluten and, at first, I thought my BP machine was malfunctioning - it was 101/57 with a heart rate of 77. I took it again and got 108/59 with HR still at 77, so it seems right. This must be why I am feeling better, but without being able to put my finger on what it was specifically. My normal reading previously would have been in the mid 120s over high 70s and HR 84 app. This is a marked contrast to the 147/100 I was getting two years ago with the stress and worry when my husband had a stroke. I have been working to get in under control ever since then partly with prescribed meds. I would be happy to get rid of those. Of course, two weeks of low gluten and two reduced readings don't prove anything but I am hopeful this will continue.

As far as the weight is concerned I am not worried. I know that one often doesn't see results for a while and that I could yo-yo at times. Although I do need to lose some weight/flab, the health benefits are what are more important to me. At friend has even suggested that I might experience a 'healing crisis' in the early days of going gluten free/low.

One food item I have yet to remove from my diet is wheat bran. I have been eating 1/2 cup each morning with my breakfast cereal for the last 25 years on the recommendation of a gastroenterologist. This is to keep my digestion regular as I had been swinging between loose and constipate for several years with often painful results. I know that my body depends on the bran as I always experience discomfort when on holiday and it is inconvenient to eat bran. Psyllium capsules were tried but getting the dosage was a trial. Now I will try with loose ground psyllium and reduce the bran gradually while adding small quantities of the psyllium until I get it right. A web item advised that there was no harm in using pysillium daily as long as the water intake was adequate. (advice sponsored by Metamucil)
