Paige E's Journal, 05 November 2008

I have been away for a few days again. Not very inspired, but I lost 1/2 lb nonetheless. I guess I'm doing okay. I haven't exactly been the poster child for the Atkins Nutritional Approach...but I haven't been awful either. (although I say this having just ate a piece of wonderfully decadent, but not too rich so that it made me sick, raspberry white chocolate cake!! oops!!) It seems to be going okay. I think working out would help. I'm not really eating a lot. I'm not particularly hungry...so that helps. To tell the truth, I kind of am okay with the way things are going.

This is my new thing:

I usually have eggs for breakfast - mixing it up with gearhead's now famous (in my house) "cream cheese and jalepeno omlette" or scrambled with cheese. Some times I add a little onion or green pepper or tomato if I happen to have some leftovers. I have cut back on the meat in the morning - limiting it to twice a week. My blood pressure has been so high and breakfast meats tend to be really loaded with salt, so I just forget them and treat them more like a treat. And I haven't really missed it. Yesterday I had bacon and it was sooo good. But it was enough for a few days.

Lunch has been a salad with any veggies I have and either cut up chicken or a 1/2 can of tuna on top. Ranch, blue cheese or real mayo have been the dressings of choice.

For dinner I've really been having almost anything I want, but in a fairly small portion. I do avoid most of the starch. Last night I made shepherd's pie because my family has been begging for it. I ate a bite with the mashed potatoes and then scraped the rest of them off and ate just the meat mixture - which was perfectly legal except for the corn. My tastes have changed and I found that I didn't really like the taste of the potatoes on the meat mixture. I try to load up on the protein at dinner because I know my lunch has taken care of the veggies.

I'm not sure what has changed. I'm not really counting my carbs - but I guess subconciously I am. Two nights ago I laid in bed and thought, "I had close to 30 carbs today." I hadn't even written it down, I just did it in my head throughout the day. Is this what they mean about it becoming second nature?

And I think the deal I made with BA has really given me some freedom!! We agreed to be able to pick a cheat on the weekend sometime. Anything we want. (I think I just blew mine a little early when I had that cake tonight!!).

I have a job now. I started bartending a few days a week. Its not the "professional" job that I was looking for - but its money coming in - and that's what I really need right now. Plus I can keep this job when I start graduate school in the spring. And - of course, it gives me something to do - new people to meet - get out of the house...all those things I really needed.

Enough. I've blabbed. If you've made it to the end of this journal, you will be put in the drawing for some fabulous prizes!!! ha!

Hope everyone is well. I'm going to peruse some journals and do some catching up now.

Congrats on the 20 lb loss! I think you're doing great, cake and all. I know what you mean, my love affair with potatoes is finished. They're just not worth it anymore....but, bread is a different story. Let me know what I win, please?!
