Inconsistent. Less frequent mini binges instead of frequent large binges. Better overally, really. Putting the sugarless gum in the candy jar was good. So when (not if) I'm drawn to temptation, I can make a good choice (gum) instead of a bad choic (hundreds of calories of sugary diabetes-inducing sweetness. I guess that's better choices. And it's still not involving any hunger or deprivation. When I actually ask if I'm hungry, not usually. SO, gum is fine then.
