I think I finally figured out what works for me. After spending my 40s telling myself I should really eat and drink less and move more, I finally just gave up and joined the YMCA and have been going at least 4x/week for at least 45 minutes a visit. I'm not changing my diet at all, and it's working! I think my goal is pretty realistic (not the 130 pounds I weighed in graduate school!) and my clothes are starting to fit better.
