HCB's Journal, 28 April 2015

Happy Tuesday, Buddies:

SO - next week I will turn 60 years old! It is hard for me to grasp because I suppose I do not know what "old" feels like...I am doing things at the gym I could not do 20 years ago!

I want to bring something as a healthy treat for my fellow gym rats to celebrate for a couple days...I was thinking a fruit tray...any better ideas?

I just came from a workout and did pretty well although I felt a little tired by the end. Food is going well, too. I was eating under 30 net carbs daily but have now been eating around 35 net carbs to include a little more veggies and blueberries on some days - the fiber is important, too. It will be interesting to see if I still have a loss with the very slight increase.

Words of the week: Be fierce and focused! (Thanks JW)

[color=green]I am dedicated, determined and diligent.

Let us celebrate with you next week. I was 60 when I woke up and started losing. Thrilled that I woke up when I did. How about a yogurt dip?

Fruit is always a good choice and well as veggies. But you need to look at the carb count on the fruit used to make the tray. Take mango for example,1 serving (about 1/2 cup) is 12.5 net carbs. I have to agree with msbuggirl it sounds wonderful, but so does 5 pounds of chocolate lol

What about a mix of fruits and veggies that are known to help with recovery from a workout like cucumbers and oranges?

Age is just a number. How you feel is more important. Fruits and veggies are always a good option.

Happy (early) birthday! BTW - There is a fantastic recipe for bars found on the Wheat Belly web site. The base is toasted coconut and almond butter with pumpkin seeds for crunch. And they don't taste "diet".

Wow - these all are great ideas, I am low carb and high fat but the rest of my gym rat friends seem to eat carbs and protein post workouts.

Ah next week is your birthday! Well Happy early birthday! And my fitness sister once made us fruit leather. One was strawberry and one was mango. She made them in her dehydrator and they were delicious. She said for the strawberry all she added was agave nectar and the mangoes were sweet enough that she didn't add anything to them.

Wow, you make 60 look like a piece of cake. You look great. Maybe a smoothie or any of the other option everyone else said.

Bravo! How about a non-food celebratory thing? I used to send in little gift things with my kids when they were in elementary school. Perhaps have little buttons or stickers made up at a Staples that say "Dedicated, Determined, Diligent!" Inspire them with your mantra. :-)

I heard something that I just love: "Getting older is a given, but aging is an option" Here's to the fierce people who refuse to age! Have a great birthday!

My daughter told me |"old age is a privilage denied to many". Helps me to keep things in perspective!
