Stayed on diet yesterday despite temptations... I'm doing really well, I did go to KFC Friday, which may make it a week where I don't lose much, but I did a good job visiting with relatives and friends and ate one triscuit! That's all! There were all sorts of crackers, candies, cookies, breads and rich thick carb-loaded chicken noodle soup that was thick and rich, I ate none of it! I'm so proud of myself for not caving in... Even if I don't lose a lot this week I know I probably would've gained if I'd eaten all the food I was tempted with yesterday. Someone wrote on someone's post site that this was a lifestyle change - and it is. Cheat days are OK for some people but I realize I have to stop going to KFC with friends because it's cheap and tasty and convenient - the chicken's skin is carb-laden and I don't want to gain weight. I want to lose it and yesterday's temptations and my success at dealing with it proves I don't have to cheat to be happy - I'm HAPPIER if I don't cheat with a lot of junk food and gain weight for the week!

Way to go on avoiding the temptations of "bad" food!! I'm reading a very interesting book called "Good Calories, Bad Calories" by Gary Taubes which basically chronicles the change in our diet from high fat low carb to low fat high carb. He also challenges the so called conventional wisdom of the low fat diet. I've just begun to read it but he really is onto something here. Apparently the data of many studies just don't bear out the theory that low fat diets work. Of course, this is something those of us on Atkins already know. My point in bringing this up is that hopefully this book will get enough people talking and get them to realize just how bad all of those processed carbs are for us. When that happens we will all be thinner and healthier for it!!

Unfortunately it isn't cheap or easy to eat healthy, but in the long run it IS more economical and better for your overall quality of life. It took me years not to feel deprived because I couldn't eat convenience food. I am starting to appreciate salads a lot more as the variety in fast food salads increases, though we still have to watch the carbs in the dressings. There are some restaurants that I can never go to and KFC is one of them. They may have other "options" but the temptation of the high-carb foods is just too great.
