WARNING - CREATINE ALLERGIC REACTION!!!

Hey everyone! I am sharing my experience with you so you have knowledge of it and can share it with your friends/family should it happen to them.

I started supplementing with Creating Monohydrate(I wont state brand since brand name won't make a difference). I was not doing any loading phase, I just used 1 scoop a day which is about 5g.

On Monday evening my skin felt very itchy and I noticed a breakout of flat raised red blotches on my arms, back, tummy, thighs, etc. I thought that maybe a bug bit me and had had a cool bath and took an allergex.

By the next morning the itchiness had subsided. had another dose of Creatine Monohydrate and started my day. I had a late lunch and whilst driving home I could feel the itchniess starting up again. My nose started feeling conjested and I thought it was just my sinus acting up due to the hot sauce I had(it was really really hot).

When I got home I took two allergex and figured that perhaps I'm having an allergic reaction to something I consumed. The only thing I consumed on Monday was water and Creatine so I googled about anyone having issues to Creatine and found that many people around the world has experienced an allergic reaction to Creatine and broke out in hives.

I didn't want to take a chance of letting it escalate to a point of having a shortness of breath and have issues with breathing due to swelling of the throat so I went to my GP last night and he gave me a shot for allergic reactions and some pills.

I woke up this morning and everything has susbsided and all the hives are gone so I'm happy with that. I've never had this problem with Creatine before and people around the world who experienced this reaction also had no previous issues in using Creatine.

I'm curious to look more into this but I'm going to stay off the Creatine for a week then try a new tub at half dose and see what happens.

Try a micronized creatine and also make sure it contains a creapure stamp of approval. If the irritation still occurs after that then I suggest you stop using it as all together.

Ibiza I used the USN micronised Creatine Monohydrate. It's so weird because I've used this stuff before and never had this issue. Others have also reported that they used it for years and then suddenly they get a reaction.

could be some form of contamination if its a used tub, try a new tub and see if it still happens

Yeah I'm hoping it was just a used tub. I will try a brand new tub on Friday and see if it happens again. Expiry on the new tub says 2018.

@BigBoy I personally have noticed a lot of impurities with USN products. Nutritech and/or Evox have so far been my best bets for local brands.

What I find confusing is that I opened this tub last year and I used alot of it and had no issues. There was only about 5 x 5g scoops left in it. I'm not sure if its possible that it got contaminated or went bad because I kept it so long after opening its seal before finishing it. I'll wait a few days and try the newly opened tub. Then if I get a reaction from that tub I'll give it a few weeks before using another brand's creatine.

if its sitting around for a year its deffs gone bad regardless of the expiry date. Any form of moisture that seeps into it can cause bacterial growth

Well I'm hoping that's the reason. I'm actually shocked at how many people have had this problem around the world. I'm taking meds so I'm a bit off track with my eating today. Oh well, I'll get my mind right soon as possible.

my hubby just had a serious reaction this morning - hands and face swelled up and when he got to the doc his pulse was abnormal - doc said his body was going into shock - so it wasn't a normal rash and hives reaction - was rather severe
