kitty-eared-girl's Journal, 03 February 2012

Got out of work early yesterday, came home and hit the pool for the first time in a few months...managed about 10 laps, alternating between the front and back stroke, before my body had had enough. Came back up to the apartment and jammed out on Dance Dance Revolution for about an hour (28 songs worth). Felt good, was exhausted by 11, passed out by midnight.

Got out of work early again today (sidenote: I serve/bartend/expo/prep at a restaurant, so when we're dead they send people home), and was energized by how beautiful the weather is today (upper 40s, clear sky and SUNNY! February is definitely feeling more like April). Scarfed some lunch and booted up DDR again, but it felt different. I made it through 11 songs before feeling sluggish and off-kilter. I'm guessing this is my body telling me that I need to stop pushing so hard and give it a slight rest. Which is what I plan on doing (at least for the rest of the day).

I don't really have much of a choice outside of today, considering the next four days I'm scheduled for double shifts at work (aka, I open the bar tomorrow morning, and expedite tomorrow night, which is easily a 10 hour shift). I probably won't get around to "legitimate" exercise until Wednesday, when I'm off again. Depending on how I'm feeling and what other errands/chores need to be done, I'm contemplating hitting the elliptical for 30 minutes, the treadmill for another 30, possibly the pool and some DDR.

On a side note, I've been contending with what I originally thought was a plateau, since I've been undulating within three pounds for the last week or so. Did a bit of forum prowling on here and found some interesting user insights. I don't recall the username, but someone wrote that they don't see plateaus as an issue, so much as a test of how dedicated you are to your end goal, whether or not the low point can derail your program. Someone else had posted that Jillian Michaels basically felt that plateaus were a bunch of mental crap that we do to ourselves, and that we simply have to fight through it. Another interesting point that I didn't realize, is that most users who wrote on the topic of plateau-ing felt that for it to be a plateau, one needed to be stuck for a month or more.

Keeping these things in mind, I forge forward, repeating the mantra of yet another user here: "Nothing tastes as good as being healthy feels".

Good job! You're doing great, even if you feel you're at a 'plateau.'
