this entry is just me venting for my lack of carbs, which is killing me.

ive been on the diet for 5 days and i am DYING for carbs. this is so hard! ive been cheating a little with peanut butter, which i am intending on stopping today. i have a terrible habit of looking at the scale everyday, which is frustrating to me when i gain and lose weight every other day. i started at 147.0, and yesterday was 143.4, but today i gained a pound. =( i am really bad with snacking. i am always hungry between meals. chips and salsa are my weakness. i am dying for it. i also have been dying for pasta, so tonight i think ill have a chicken alfredo.

Hi Lisa, I've found that the best way to deal with carb cravings is to have some protein and to not eat the carbs that you aren't supposed to have. Honestly, at first my biggest problem was sugar. The lack of sugar was killing me but now, at a week into Atkins, I'm really doing a lot better with the cravings and I'm dropping weight really quickly. Oh and I made Chicken Alfredo the other night with zucchini noodles. - it was awesome. I didn't even miss the pasta. Hang in there, it really does get better. I promise.

If you crave peanut butter it might be a trigger for you. There are 4.8g net carbs in 2 T of unsweetened PB. If you are still craving after 5 days it means you haven't cut back your carb intake enough to go into ketosis. There is no grey area on this diet, unfortunately. Giving in to pasta is not going to help your cravings, they are just going to continue. I know from experience. Let me know if there is anything I can help you with.

When you are craving chips and salsa, get some pork rinds and dip them in salsa. I'm surprised you're still fighting cravings after 5 days. Give yourself 3 full days with no cheating and you will be surprised at how those cravings go away. Make some ready to eat Atkins friendly snacks and keep them handy for when you have the munchies. I keep deviled eggs, celery sticks, and ready to heat up meatballs on hand for a quick fix. You can stuff your celery with cream cheese or dip into ranch dressing. Get creative and check out some Atkins recipes. Good luck to you!! You can do it!!!
