Sandy701's Journal, 15 December 2011

Walked 1.7 miles this morning before heading off to help out with the Angel Tree gifts. I intended to do more walking later in the day to get my mileage up, but after the workout at church, I won't be!!

Whew....lots and lots of bending, lifting, walking, then more bending, lifting, walking....moving all the gifts from one place to another, putting them in order and then moving them again to inventory them against the master list, packing them into large bags for Saturday's distribution, and hauling the filled bags to a temporary location until they're picked up on Saturday.

Sixty families will be receiving gifts, most with 3-4 kids and there are 3 gifts per child (at least), so it's a LOT of work!!! Most of the volunteers today were older individuals who moved slowly and weren't all that enthused about the physicality of the work at hand; some simply were not physically able to do what was needed. So, I went ahead and did a lot of the physical stuff and chalked it up to exercise. It definitely got my heart rate up!

Then afterward, I had to run by WalMart to get one of the gifts exchanged, due to duplication. Luckily, the giver enclosed a gift receipt, so that made it easy. Of course, then, I needed to shop for a replacement gift. I actually had it easy....the head of the committee will have to shop tomorrow afternoon for all the missing gifts - angels that never got returned - luckily, not too many this year. When all is said and done, all the kids will have their Christmas gifts, thanks to the generosity of many, many people who picked "names" off the Angel Tree.

Good news for my last Angel gift that I was awaiting from Amazon. It arrived in today's mail, so I can complete the wrapping and turn it in tomorrow when I return that exchanged gift.

Also got 3 shipments done going out to family and friends. I've got 2 more shipments to complete by 4PM tomorrow so that delivery by Christmas is still guaranteed without paying extra.

Nothing else in the house is getting done today....just a whole lot of Christmas wrapping!

Oh, and yes, another quiet night of no alarm going off! Every quiet day/night makes me more confident that it's fixed. The bill for it has already arrived so I'll be saying good bye to 1 arm and 1 leg....LOL!!!

Jenni, yes it's a pretty fun project. Luckily, I have the time to devote to it. Did I say "have the time?" Well, I guess I DO have the time, but it sure seems in short supply at this time of year!

Thanks Dani. This is a project I've been involved with for many years, but this is the first year I'm seeing/working on what goes on behind the scenes to really make it happen.

Yes GG, that will be me in a wilted angel heap!! LOL!!! My body got a pretty good workout because it seemed no one could find tables to work on. So, everything was being constantly picked up from the floor and then placed somewhere else....on the floor.....then picked up and put in a bag - ON THE FLOOR....well, you get the picture. It was like a gym class where it's "touch your toes, straighten up, touch your toes, straighten up" over and over and over again.

Actually Bren, if one gets a system monitored, most of these repairs ARE free!!! I think that's why they have to charge us non-monitored types so much.....to make up for the freebies they do for the monitored customers. It's still cheaper this way than buying the monitoring; besides we have the 2-canine monitoring system!
