heidij123's Journal, 13 July 2016

I'm feeling I should write a journal entry, as I did the 'start a new diet' thing a few days ago, but didn't write anything at the time. I've basically been trying to maintain or not gain too much over the last few months, as I've been away from home a lot. Now entering a period when I'll be mostly at home, and really need to focus on losing the remaining weight.

However I'm facing motivational problems. Why? Well, I can think of some reasons. One is just 'post-holiday let-down', which means I'm having problems feeling motivated to do anything. Another I think is a sort of complacency - part of my brain thinks I've already achieved enough! Another could be the weather, which I have now started getting fed up with, though I am still glad that I'm not in the baking heat of Spain - but it has been difficult getting myself to go walkies when it's constantly looking like it's about to rain.

But I must find a way to cast these thoughts aside and get on with the job. I'm feeling rather fat and sluggish at the moment, which seems a little odd, but I guess I've got used to being this new slimmer size, to the point where a couple of pounds gain actually feels like a gain!

I've set myself a goal of losing another 12 pounds, and I want to drop another clothing size. I'm logging food, I've made a start on the walking and haven't got wet yet, and I'm nearly a pound down already. I've also been looking back at my last year's journals for motivation, which are quite fun to read. And yes, I have been on FS a year! Wow, I never would have thought it. So lots of positive stuff, but I still don't feel really motivated 🤔

I think the main thing however is to look forwards and not backwards, really focus on my goals, actively take part in challenges (I've been checking a lot of 'no' boxes recently), and maybe set up a challenge my own if those on offer aren't really doing it for me. I'm hoping for an attitude shift, just need to be positive and keep working on it.

Thanks to my buddies for your continuing support, and I wish you all a good week 😀

Your head and mine seem to be in a similar place at present, if for different reasons. Perhaps it is a malady of the "done great but not quite there yet" brigade.

Well, from my point of view, acknowledging the present situation of lack of motivation and doing something about it, is already a big deal (which seems that you are doing). I have those times too, when my motivation goes away... I agree with the notion that sometimes we just need to find something more fresh and new to get involved again. I liked your idea of setting your own challenge... Congratulations with your anniversary on FS!!! :)

Thanks for your empathy, both! I think it just does get a bit wearisome after a while, difficult to summon the enthusiasm we had when we started. However it needs to be done. Best just get on with it, I guess.

I'll keep that last sentence in mind. Thanks.

I sure can identify with where you're at Heidij123, I've been in a similar place. This is a journey with stages and with ups/downs along the way. At some point as we get close to where we would like to be and are there a while, we can become comfortable with that. After all, it's a much better, healthier place than where we started from. So we have to dig deep and find the motivation to really move forward as we go on the next leg of the journey. Keep pushing forward, you've done great!

Sending a hug from afar. You have achieved so much and been so diligent, but I think any of us, from time to time, struggle more at some times than others. But it's just a step, really, a blip on the road. Just keep walking, that's what matters...keep moving towards it. Congratulations on a year on FS, and thank you for being a great buddy and inspiration. :)

You're doing all the right things! I'm coming close to my 2 year point on FS and am feeling wary as you are. Hang tough, the challenge is a great idea! :D
