Hey guys, happy Tuesday! Thanks for the uplifting comments yesterday, helped me stick to my guns when the going got tough!

Off to a rough start this week. Yesterday morning I ended up spending the entire morning in the auto shop getting my front brakes repaired. Luckily it was a faulty caliper, and all was covered under warranty. I made an appointment for my daughter that evening with the pediatrician because she had some discoloration around her neck, almost like a rash but dark colored rather than red. Doctor said it's acanthosis nigricans. The discoloration itself is harmless (other than snide remarks from snotty little kids at school) but it often signifies an underlying condition. The two big ones are thyroid disorders, or insulin resistance. The doctor said her thyroid feels enlarged, so that could be it, but I'm really worried about the potential for pre-diabetes/ type two diabetes. Came home after the appointment feeling so damn guilty. You know, as any parent would, wondering what I did wrong, could have done better etc. I know damn well I have severely turned this family around in terms of good eating habits and getting more active, but I still feel guilty. I wanted so badly to just eat last night, something... ANYTHING. But then I got to thinking how stupid that would be, as poor eating habits lead to diabetes lol, and that might not even be the problem. So I went to the gym for a dirty thirty (minute) workout. I felt better afterwards. Proud of myself for handling that stress without food.

Kiddo had to fast all night last night for blood work this morning, then eat breakfast and go back two hours later for another draw. By the time we were done with the whole ordeal it was almost noon so I just called her out of school. No sense in going for two hours. I didn't expect the two hour test, so surprise there goes my entire morning today. Oh well, it wasn't supposed to be a gym day anyway. I was hoping to get a walk in today but it's so damn windy.

Oh, and I took kiddo to bob evans for breakfast this morning. I did really well except for the hash browns. I don't understand how one serving of hash browns could be 371 calories, and I'm pretty sure I didn't have a four and a half ounce serving, but I'll take it for what it says and move forward. Next time, home fries 178cal. It was good, and she really enjoyed the mom/daughter time.

Now to try and put my worries away, and focus on getting ready for class tonight. Exam on Thursday so I guess I need to finish reading that chapter.

Have a great day everyone!

Hi there! I am not sure how old your daughter is but my son was diagnosed with acanthosis nigercans at 11. Diabetes is prevelant in my family and I myself am type II. I was devistated. Today he is nearly 20 with no signs of the acanthosis. He is a big guy though and I am always concerned about his health. My suggestion is to make sure she stays monitored and if there is any kind of fitness program she can be a part of or is a part of--encourage her to stay in it :)

Did they also do labs for her thyroid while they were poking holes in her? Please let us know the results when you find out. Hugs.

Good victory for you Yolanda by going to the gym and working out instead of eating your emotions!! That's awesome. I'll be thinking of your daughter and sending positive vibes your way!

Thank you Patty, appreciate the support :) Yes, Kathy they did run multiple thyroid tests on top of the glucose and insulin. Should have the results in a few days. Angie, my daughter is one month shy of her eleventh birthday. She has always been stocky, and she loves her food. My grandmother was recently diagnosed with type two diabetes but she is literally the only one in my family. Fingers crossed, I keep you posted.

I'm hoping for the best for your daughter! I've grown up with an enlarged thyroid and have never had an "off" thyroid test, but have been told numerous times that as I get older that could change and I have an ultrasound every couple of years to make sure nothing is wrong and so far all good, so I hope your daughter is like me in that regard. It's great that you were able to work out the stress instead of eating it, I need to follow your footsteps there. I'm sending good, healthy vibes your way!!

Hoping for the best with your daughter. Good for you picking the gym over the food. So sorry you are under a lot of stress which is hard on you and your family.
