Sherillynn's Journal, 24 April 2011

Today will certainly be an Easter to remember. However, it might be better off forgotten! Last night, Jeff fell down the stairs in such a way that he rolled his foot over. I heard a crash and a loud yell and I knew something was wrong. He was getting ready to go out and do chores so he continued, even though he was in pain. When he came back in, he couldn't bear weight on it. I work in the ER, so I checked it out. No obvious deformity with the bones but it was already swelling and turning a lovely shade of purple. Our options: take some pain pills, ice it and keep it elevated and go in first thing in the AM or go last night and be away from hoe until midnight. We opted for plan A. I took him in this morning and dropped him off while I was at Easter services. (They were the highlight of my day! Amzing music and excellent preaching.) When church was over, I went to the ER and sure enough, the x-ray showed a broken foot. I felt so horrible for many reasons. First of all, I didn't want him to be in any pain. Secondly, he's diabetic and nothing ever heals quickly for him and third, they said he will need surgery. We see the specialist on Tuesday to learn more about that. I'll call tomorrow AM for the appointment. The other big glitch in the system is that calving is in full swing and he cannot bear any weight or be in the barn and planting starts in about a week as well and he will not be able to hoist himself up into the tractor. The timing could not have been worse. My poor husband!
I guess I should be thankful that he didn't split his noggin open in the fall too. That would be the bright side.
As for my diet today, I did not follow the plan. I decided prior to this even happening that today would be a free day. I didn't go nuts but I did have a dessert. It was delicious. I avoided all of the high carb dishes that my MIL brought over from Easter dinner that we missed with the family. I think dessert will only set me back a few days but that's OK.
After my ER visit, I had to install 5 hives of honeybees. That went quite well. No stings. Minimal fuss. I'll check them again in a week.
So, there is my account of my Easter Sunday. Can I have a nap now?

Oh Sherrill, I am sooo sorry....my mom fell and broke her ankle 3 years ago. She had to have a plate put in and screws. 2 years later she had to have ankle replacement surgery. It was a rough go, but she is doing very well now...she is 73. I sure hope hubby's appt with the specialist goes well, and that he heals well. As for the calves and the planting, can some of your neighbors perhaps help out. I know that in the farming community, they are so good about helping other farmers when they are in need. Hugs and lots of prayers coming your way. God bless and hang in there.

You most certainly deserve a nap! I hope everything goes well when y'all see the specialist and that if surgery is a definite that it is quick, efficient & effective with minimal pain and healing time. Growing up on a farm, I know that the animals and crops stop for no one. I hope that family and neighbors step in to help - like they always did, without even thinking about it, 'back in the day'. I will keep you both in my prayers. P.S - Congrats for avoiding the high carb offerings! Given the stress you were under, that was a HUGE accomplishment!! Good job!! ☺

My heart goes out to you, friend. Your faith and your indomitable spirit will see you through. I am praying for you, your husband, the calves, the birds and the bees, your new job possibilities and everything else that you are dealing with right now. Your week surely has to improve!
