writingwyo's Journal, 16 December 2021

Have had a starch and sugar freakout the last few days, but still seem to be maintaining a pound or two lower than I was not all that long ago, so I'll take it.

I had to lose about 30 pounds a couple of years ago because my knees started buckling on stairs and on steep hills when I was hiking. Most people, I have read, regain the weight within two to five years. Right now, I'm okay with just preventing that. I hope when I retire from my desk job in a couple of years, I'll be able to focus more on fitness. Even then, if I don't lose any weight but gain strength and aerobic capacity, I'm okay with my body. I don't believe in hating my body, whatever its size or shape. We tend not to take care of things we hate.

Although I'm not using FS to actively lose weight, it's a helpful tool. It helps me keep my nutrition on track in regards to protein, fiber, potassium and sodium. It reminds me to moderate.

That said, it's the office holiday party today. There shall be cake, and I'm gonna enjoy it 😉

The book Burn shows that we don't lose much weight from exercise, but ironically, people who lose weight maintain that loss better when they exercise consistently. And the other things exercise does are even more important than being thin and sedentary! Good on you.

I know I feel better when I exercise more. I tend to hike or ski, though, which isn't every day. Plus, this is a terrible time of year in Wyoming to go outside! Definitely something I need to work on.
