SherrieC's Journal, 22 August 2014

As I was driving to the store last night, it just popped into my head. Could this 2 pound weight gain have come from my new medicine, which clearly says, that as one of the side effects is weight gain. I know I said I wasn't worried about it, but now it is on my mind. I have to say the medicine is working and I can see a difference in my mood, but is it worth the chance of gaining more weight?
I am happy with how I look, and feel about myself, I just do not want to get any larger. Any other time that would sound very vain, but I know that you understand where I am coming from.

Anyway, I just had to put this out there, more for me to be able to look back and see where it all started from.

Have a fantastic day/weekend !!!!

Sherrie

You are not vain. I would also get upset if I would retain water because of some much needed medicine. You could ask your doctor to prescribe you something else but what doesn't make you gain weight.

I agree with Snezcia. That, or find a diet that will keep you on a level playing field.

Great catch. It could indeed be the new medicine. Sometimes I think it even happens with any change of med - even when the side effect isn't weight gain. The body sees something new coming in and tries to prepare itself in some mysterious way. And I don't think you're vain at all! You're feeling good and pretty comfortable in your own skin. You're active on a daily basis doing something you love. I can't see a darn thing wrong in any of that!

Meds can absolutely do a number on weight -- no pun intended! But feeling good is most important! xoxox

It is a cruel fact that medications for depression/anxiety often lead to weight gain, which in turn affects a person's mood/confidence level. I can't tell you how many patients confided in me that they couldn't continue on a medication because of the weight gain, only to have the doctor either poo-poo the connection or tell them that their mental health was more important. Ironically enough, though, when those same doctors were faced with side effects from medications, they did not hesitate to experiment and try different ones. HUGE double standard!

The medication can cause weight gain, but as long as you keep to your healthy eating and exercising, it should be fine. Medication is a stress on the body when you first start it, but your body gets adjusted to it after a short time. Hang in there.

Oh how I struggle with this as I am on quite a few meds and weight gain is on most of them for side effects. We shall overcome...God Bless...

It is so true, I went back on BCP last week and have worried about the same thing. I think if you don't let it bug you it has it's benefits. Talk to the doc. maybe they have pointers to help you understand why gaining is possible and then do some research to see what you can also do to help.
