Day 3 with the BodyMedia, and it still has me over 3000 kcal burned. I have been ramping up the amount I eat though, by about 400 to 500 per day over the weekend - and I'm down a small net amount still. Which leads me to believe the armband may be more accurate than I thought. Even if it's correct, though, I'm still not going to jump up to eating 3000 or 3200 calories per day right away. First, I'm not even sure if I can do that. Second, it seems possible that my body could react to an 80% calorie increase not just by burning all those calories, but by storing a lot of them away as fat, just in case it goes back to a "famine."

SO, I'll keep my eye on the BodyMedia, keep exercising, and just slowly move the calories up, probably about 150 per week.

And I could be seeing things, but I think that even just after 3 days of eating more, there seems to be a tiny bit more meat on some of the muscle groups.

I dunno, this BMF could be a real godsend. If I'm given a free pass to eat 1000 to 1400 more calories per day that all goes toward lean muscle....this will be fun :)

I have always wanted to try one of those body calorie counters but have not had the gusto to get one (that, and being on a wedding budget =P). I would be curious to know EXACTLY how many calories I burn a day because I do keep a well kept calorie count on here and for me to gain weight, it takes alot. So either I am overestimating my calorie intake, or underestimating my metabolic rate. Anyways - regarding your thoughts on adding more calories, be cautious like you state. The increased calories that you have taken in based on your calorie burn on your BMF is your body's initial reaction to the added increase in calorie intake. Your metabolism is increasing because your body is requiring more work to process the new uptake. Once you continue with that new uptake on a regular your metabolism will begin to settle down and be used to that type of amount, which can result in fat storage. It's totally okay to up the calories (so long as your ratio and the type of calories you increase are the right kind). As for me and my experiences, when I spike in calories due to cheat meals I DEFINITELY see a sharp spike the next day as far as calorie burn goes. My body fat trends downward for 1-2 days then it levels back up again during the rest of my week. Lately - the cheat meals have been....rough to say the least. But even with that I did not notice any dramatic issues because the ratio of Carb/Fat/Protein was still within my ranges. Keep it up with the BMF! I totally want to know how it goes and maybe use that as a means of getting me one in the hopeful future.
