Things that are worth being off your diet for...

I had valentines day dinner with one of the sweeties at Orson in San Francisco. This is Elizabeth Falkner's restaurant, and while it's definitely not an A-list establishment, it's firmly in the B+ range. The decor is contemporary/industrial, and the food is uniformly quite good.

We dined on butternut squash bisque, seared scallops with avocado puree, fish, pork loin, a pavlova with sorbet and whipped creme fraiche, and some beautiful chocolate concoction.

The last course of the prix fixe menu was called "bon bondage". Before it arrived, we were presented with fresh napkins but no utensils. A few minutes later we received a plate that contained two chocolate bon bons, a smear of honey, a dab of chocolate oil, a pile of finely ground vanilla fleur de sel sugar... and a blindfold. Our server instructed us that one person was to be blindfolded, and the other was to feed them with our fingers.

So, really... licking honey and chocolate off of your lover's fingers while blindfolded in a fine dining establishment? The diet can wait.

Well well ... agreed. I'd guess whatever that bon bondage led to afterwards would have burned off at least some of the calories ingested. ;-)
