clearwatermaillady's Journal, 28 March 2014

So I have lost 23 pounds so far. In the last two weeks around 7 or 8 times, I have started to get lightheaded and my eyesight goes fuzzy. Yesterday was my day OFF work and I was home along with my 4 year old daughter. I had just woke up and I was sitting on the couch. I then got up and went to the kitchen and all of a sudden I got lightheaded and all I could see was black. I thought for sure I was going to faint. It lasted about a 1/2 minute and then I was ok. The whole time I was think ALL MY GOD DO NOT FAINT, MY DAUGHTER WILL BE ALL BY HERSELF. That was it for me, I called my doctor and told them what happened and made a appointment for today at 1:00pm. When I got to the office the nurse called me back and did the usual things. She asked me what was wrong, took my weight and then it is time for my Blood Pressure. That's when things got scary. She took it the first time and said that can't be right. Then she took it again and again. Then she asked me to stand up and took it again. Then she said that's scary. Something you never want to hear a nurse say. I asked her what was my blood pressure and she said 80/60. I am like are you joking and she said NO. You see normal is around 100/70 and mine was WAY TOO LOW. I am on Blood Pressure medicine and when I saw the doctor and she said what have I change in my diet that would make my blood pressure go so low. I said the only thing is I am eating healthier and lost 23 pounds. She said that it is the weight loss that did it. She said I may never need the medicine again but for now she wants me OFF THE MEDICINE and to take my blood pressure everyday for the next three weeks and call her if it stays low or goes to high. I have another appointment in 3 weeks to talk to her more about it. Also she said I have to drink V8 juice three times a day till Monday, which by then the drugs should be out of my system. She said that V8 juice is loaded with Sodium and that makes your blood pressure go up, which is what I need right now. I read the juice and it is LOADED with a Crazy amount of sodium. 920mg 38% of your Daily Value. At least it is only 70 calories a can but I hate the taste of it. I never did like the taste of tomato juice but my Doctor did say they make it with Low Sodium too and it is a great thing to drink when on a diet because it has a lot of good for you vegetables in it. I read the label and it has tomatoes, carrots, celery, beets, parsley, lettuce, watercress, spinach in it. It does sound like a healthy drink for someone but I just can't get past the tomato juice taste I hate. Well I am now on this journey to see if I can be off the medicine forever. Another great blessing of losing weight.

Clearwater, what type of "diet" are you on currently? If you're following an Atkins or Keto-type diet AND drinking at least half your body weight in ounces of water a day, you HAVE TO HAVE TO HAVE TO supplement with sodium tablets, or be salting EVERYTHING you eat with a good sea salt (not table salt). Sodium deficiency is something that can cause a host of symptoms (migraines, light headedness, belly aches, fatigue, etc.) and is not to be taken lightly.

do not have a Sodium deficiency. I am on BLOOD PRESSURE MEDICINE. It seems that if you lose a lot of weight your body does not need blood pressure medicine. It seems that all the weight I been carrying around is what made my heart work harder. Once the weights OFF my heart does not work as hard to get the blood moving through my veins so if I'm on blood pressure medicine it will make it go to low. Thats the reason my doctor has me drinking V8 with lots of sodium for ONLY THE NEXT 3 DAYS until the medicine is out of my systems. She said LOTS OF SODIUM MAKES YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE GO UP and that's what I need for the next 3 days so I don't have LOW BLOOD PRESSURE and get the dizzy spells or faint!!!

Scary for sure - good news is you are healthy enough to stop the meds, way to go! That is my goal as well.

I had to buy a blood pressure cuff and write down my blood pressure each day until my doctors appointment in 3 weeks. The doctor said I may need a low dose medicine or nothing at all. I do plan on losing 20 more pounds so at that point I know I really will not need medicine. The lesson learned here is now I know how unhealthy it is to gain weight. I have had many healthy issues as a result of gaining 40 pounds and that is the biggest reason for losing the weight, such as tired all the time from carrying the weight around, high blood pressure, my knees hurt when I stand to long at work, High levels of cholesterol. Bottom line it just is not healthy to be over weight. I want to look better too and be able to wear cute clothing again. I am going to get this weight OFF once and for all. I have learned my lesson about my healthy deteriorating just because I gained weight!!!!
