Emerald17's Journal, 17 March 2014

I'm pretty disappointed in myself for failing to workout all last week. Today isn't starting off the week well either. My 6 year old is on Spring Break, so I've got all 3 kids (6, 3, and 2 months old) at home with me. I'm grateful for the time I get to spend with them; I'm just having trouble keeping up enough energy to workout AND to find time to workout. I'm still breastfeeding every 2 hours at night. When I'm lucky, I get 3 hours thrown in there; which means I might be able to get 1.5-2 hours of sleep in between feedings---providing I'm able to fall back to sleep right away. I have good nights and bad nights....but here lately, I feel like my energy is leaking out of me, and I can't stop it. I know that breastfeeding takes energy, but I'm still extremely upset that I haven't managed to maintain a good workout schedule, as well as lose much weight. I keep going up and down. (I haven't maintained my food diary, so please don't think I've stopped eating altogether. I just haven't been coming on here.) It's frustrating for me--especially since I KNOW what it takes to get back in shape. I worked hard 1.5 years ago to get to my goal weight and then surpass it. I feel like I'm not going to be able to get back to that. I'm hoping that I can do at least a little bit of cardio this evening, when my husband gets home and we put the kids to bed. But I still need to find a "moment" between putting them to bed and the next feeding of my little one in order to workout. This is going to be tough. I feel like I have to rush to find time, and then rush to workout. At this rate, I feel like I'm never going to drop the pounds. Ugh!

You are being too hard on yourself.... as a grandmother I, I wish to offer a little advice.. You are breastfeeding, so you need high energy foods, not low caloric foods. Just choose healthier options and drink something, like a Sustagen, with milk, an hour before breastfeeding. It does sound like the baby is not getting quality milk at the end of the day, because of exhaustion... offer him a top up with a bottle... just 10 mls to start... then hopefully you will be able to sleep more at night. Replenishing the energy for the next day. Take the kids for a walk, instead of worrying about your workout! Just breastfeeding will bring you back in no time... I sincerely hope this helps..

You will get there. With a new baby, you have to take time to find your family rhythym. I cannot say it enough, schedule...schedule...schedule. If the goal is 30-min activity per day; then I would suggest that you break it up into 15-min intervals. Do what works for you until you get that seamless rhythym. That may mean buying paper plates or having hubby empty dishwasher at night so you can just load it up all day and run it the hour after dinner. While baby naps, have the other two work out with you (who cares if they're doing it right). Tell them it's mommy's giggle-n-jump time and they are welcome to join or sit with a snack during this time (they are old enough to understand the concept). I've neglected myself for the last 3 yrs because I didn't hold to the rhythym after my 2nd son was born -- plus sick ailing parents and inlaws. (I was actually MUCH smaller a year post-birth than I am today!) Above all, don't get discouraged and make a new EFFORT every day! When you are in a good place - physically, mentally, spiritually - so is your entire family. Such is the world of women! xoxoxoxo

Try Leslie Sansone 1-mile, twice-a-day <http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=df2gn6-w0dE> My kids like jumping around with these too.

I put baby and toddler in the pram and just went for daily walks. That way I'd done my exercise and the kids had an outing and I could do other things when they were in bed.

njashka8 : What's a "pram"? Sorry, I'm sure this is a dumb question.

LuC2 : Thank you for recommending this. I did the 1-mile just now, and I'm soooo happy I was able to finally do SOME TYPE of workout. :D

Thank you all for your encouragement and recommendations. I really needed it. So much more than I ever thought I would. I'm back on Day 1, since I was feeling so discouraged and unmotivated.

Hi Emerald17, I am in Tassie, and wish you well on your journey. I have had a tough week this week but thanks to you and others I am following. It sure helps keeping to plan. I will let you know what I have done....... given up 90% sugar.... still have 1 little freddo frog on a Thurs but only if I lose weight.. I would like to say that the past 23 kilos has been easier than I thought. No soft drink, No Milo, No cordials or fruit juice either. But I do have two pieces of fruit every day.... and eat a lot of veggies. I only have small portions as well. If I get hungry between meals.... I drink water and go outside for 10 mins. my dietitian is amazed and is very happy with my progress. Its her diet tips that have helped me soo much. I hope this helps with your dieting as well. Keep going...I am following you. ☆☆☆
