gilliansings's Journal, 13 March 2014

Yesterday was a wonderful day with an unexpected trip to the zoo after work. The angels smiled on us and there were no meltdowns until we were on our way home. My daughter brought lots of lovely, healthy snacks and I ate minimally.

Some of the animals were hiding and we didn't get to see the new lion cubs (they made their once-a-day appearance about 45 minutes before we got to the cat area). The sun was shining and we reached a high of 64 degrees - just about the perfect temperature in my humble opinion. Lots of walking, with one final race up the exit ramp to make the toddler laugh his way out of a funk (over leaving).

We went to dinner afterwards and I had 3 bites of each yummy taco (one crunchy, one soft homemade tortilla) and then dumped the contents out and ate it on a bed of lettuce. Water with lemon, no rice or beans. I watched my daughter drink a virgin pina colada and have her normal meal and did not feel deprived at all. The 2-1/2 year old slept through the meal and the baby was in fine form, smiling, talking and gurgling away. My daughter and I laughed about how it was not likely to happen again - kind of like a perfect storm, even if it was more a "perfect calm," lol.

Today was not quite as nice out, but still pleasant. I came home from work and finally got around to dusting, vacuuming, sweeping and mopping. After a little computer time and Netflix, I dragged out the yoga tape. Yeah, it kind of scares me. I did two segments again, only this time I did one I hadn't done before. Ouy, I am feeling parts I didn't know I had! I love the calm way I feel when I'm done and I am proud of the increased strength and flexibility, but AHHHH, some of those poses are kicking my BUTT!!!

Eating super low calorie today to balance out my two moderately high calorie days.

Tomorrow's Friday you all! TGIF!!!

I miss going to the zoo. Have to do it again one of these days :) That was a good strategy with the exit race! heheh. Sleeping through the meal is definitely the less caloric way to have a meal hahah ;) I've never practiced Yoga but those isometric stances definitely do not look easy! I have followed a Pilates routine from a YouTube video once and I was "annihilated" before the end :)

It sounds like you had a great day -- I'm so happy for you! And jealous of your weather as its freaking cold here! Good for you for sticking with the yoga. I do it sporadically, but it is so good for you. TGIF! xoxox

Sounds like you and your daughter and the grandkids had a great day : ) I wish my mom was closer so we could do things like that. We dont get to see each other nearly often enough. It always feels so good to have an outing where you enjoy yourself and then realize you ate well too.

Sorry for those of you that aren't having nice weather and don't live close to your families. I am grateful for the time I get to have with my daughter and grandsons, especially with my own son being in Sweden until June (he left last August). My daughter and her family will be moving out of state in 6 months. They will be gone at least 2.5 years and may never move back :-(

That's a tough situation! It's not the same but maybe you can visit them or vice-versa once and a while :P. I hope the best for you!

Thanks euheide. That is the plan. Since the husband's family live just 30 minutes from us, they can do a two-fer when they come back to our area. I'm relieved that that is the case.
