2ManyCurves's Journal, 11 February 2014

I have been logging the good, the bad and the ugly. It has all went into my food journal. The weather has continued to be awful even into February. I did my 7 mile run on Sunday on snow and ice covered trails. But, I have not been able to keep with my Higdon training schedule through the week as much as I would like. Today, I decided that I had enough. I have ate terrible since...well February 1st. There have been a few good days, but the bad eating days have outweighed the good. The lack of regular exercise and clean, healthy food has me feeling in the dumps. Last night I physically felt stomach pain from eating so much garbage. I woke up at 430am stressed about work and just feeling low. On a break between work, I forked over the money and finally joined a gym. It is a small gym with no fancy swimming pools, saunas, hot tubs, or tanning beds etc. But it is open 24/7 and I will be able to use a treadmill and elliptical in temperatures above -7 thankfully. I talked the gym owner into giving me a complimentary visitor pass for a week so that my running buddy can come with me to decide if she might like to join as well. I cringed at writing a check for $50 to start the one year contract. But, then I realized that I have forked over $50 on Captain D's and Olive Garden this week. Surely, I can afford something that will actually improve my health. After all, I stand to lose $20 from DietBet if I don't get on the ball and drop 7 pounds before the end of this month. So, it is kind of like I am only paying $30 for the membership, right? Also, should my water pipes freeze up again with this terrible cold spell, I can shower at the gym now. I'd bet people would probably be willing to donate to my gym membership than have me come to work with bad hygiene. Ha.

Ok. Enough talk. Time to get back to business. I previously saw a FS friend's post that she was taking a vow of silence until she reached a certain weight. I like the idea of less talk, more action. So, I'm going to follow her lead and hold my tongue until I break into the 170s. I will still read your journals for motivation and to support you guys. But, I need to talk less and run more right now.

With the new gym membership how can you possibly go wrong 2mc? Plan when youre going to go and plan what you are going to eat, then all you have to do is follow through. If you can bust your ass getting that awesome career despite the hell you went through during that stage of your life you can handle working out and eating healthy, the doubt is all in your head. Stay strong, youve got this.

Good for you - and yes, it's funny how much we'll drop at a restaurant then argue about the cost elsewhere - like I want a publication that is $40 and found myself going 'not worth it' but how many times have I spent that at a restaurant??? Esp when paying for something good for you - I think sometimes it's easy to get in the habit that processed food is cheaper and medical insurance pays for the meds that are needed to treat the symptoms, blah, bad cycle. Yep.. next time you need to gather up the funds for the gym go to work unshowered and pass the hat ... :-)

I paid more than I would like to when I joined the YMCA, but YOU are worth it! Use the money as a motivation to GO to the gym to get your dollar's worth, and maybe even consider that too and skip eating out because "that money is for the gym membership." Just a thought. I totally understand how winter slumps can get everyone into the "blah" cycle (as Bella so aptly named it) but I think joining the gym is your first step back into the right direction. :)

LOL, 2MC! I agree... $50 for a gym membership is a great investment! Be sure to take FULL ADVANTAGE of it! That way you get more than they money's worth. Keep smiling, and keep cranking! We can all do this together.
