hungrypuggle16's Journal, 10 February 2014

I just got off the phone with my dad and he really laid into me about my weight. Not in a negative way, but he said what I've been avoiding for so many years. I guess I still think I'm invincible even though I'm 125 lbs over weight. Anyways it was a wake up call I needed. He's calling me every week for me to weigh in lol. He has been my biggest supporter over the years. Last time I saw him a year ago I was at 250 lbs and got down to 220. So I'm hoping this summer when I see him again I'll be close to 220 again or even 200 would be awesome. I have a lot to work do, so here is to a new day!

Glad to hear you have some positive support behind you, not to mention a real life face to answer to. Youre going to get there, one pound at a time :-)

My mom said focus on 25 lbs at a time. I think that'll work because 125 is just so overwhelming to think about.

I love the relationship you have with your parents. They sound very loving and supportive!! I agree with your mom! I make myself tiny mini goals on a week to week basis... Instead of thinking of months from now. Right now Im trying to lose 2lbs a week.... Everything else is bonus!

The bigger numbers can be very overwhelming, I started out with 140 to lose to get to my goal. I saw a quote on pinterest that I kind of made my mantra, "Never mind the time it will take you to accomplish a goal. The time will pass anyway." Its so true, whether youre working towards your goal or against it, the years will go by regardless might as well make them count.

I divided the weight I wanted to lose in thirds approximately. I decided that I would work to lose 40 lbs for each of my three children. Then when you look at your chart it allows you to see success instead of always being at the bottom. I have been at it for about 10 months. I am down about 52 lbs. So down one child and working on the second. Smaller goals worked for me... Don't think of the entire amount you want to ultimately lose in one chunk. You will get discouraged and quit. Your Mom is right...

My weight was always the "white elephant in the room" that nobody mentioned. Not my family, my friends, my doctors...I mean absolutely no one EVER said anything to me about it. My mom finally did about a year ago, just in passing, but there was never any encouragement to give it a try. It took me not being able to go under anesthesia for a procedure and having to have it in in the office instead under a local that slapped me upside the head and made me realize I was heading for an early grave. I wish you all the best during your journey.

Thanks everyone. Yolanda I like that quote. I heard one similar along the lines of 6 months from now you can be the same weight, or lighter. It's your choice.

I'm not sure I can add much more than anyone else before me but know that we are all in your corner as we've been there.. at least.. I have. Set smaller goals and know that it will take time. In the beginning you will have huge dips in weight once you begin eating better and being mindful of your intake .. it will be very encouraging.. and then your body will take a few days, weeks even months to sort it all out and that will be a maintenance. The 'six months lighter' is great- use this time to explore yourself, how did you get to this weight, what are your triggers, who's in your pocket to help you get thru the next day, meal, bite at a time. And one of my favorite sayings from the book 'eat what you love, love what you eat' is 'When I am hungry, I will eat what I love. When I am bored, I will do something I love. When I am lonely, I will contact someone I love. When I am sad, I will remember I am loved.'

It sounds like you're on the right track! It's always good to have a supporter, especially when they can bring you back to reality. I think making smaller goals and celebrating those as they come will make it easier to get to the ultimate goal. Good luck!! :)

I also got a wake up call this summer. My husband said to me, "Look around: There are no really old fat people. I want to get old with you." I started crying. He said he didn't care how I looked, that I was beautiful and sexy to him at any weight (he married me when I was heavy, so I knew that was true), but his words touched me because he wants me to live and he wants us to be together. So I'm on the warpath now. Those who may wonder why I don't have any "cheat" days, now you know my secret, now you know why I won't quit, ever until I get there. I wish you the best on your journey. You will find much love and support here on this site. Keep checking in and have fun with it!
