Doctors are idiots, and now Im dying. Its been real buddies. Although having been diagnosed with a bacterial infection and given antibiotics by a specialist on Tuesday, things have only gone from bad to worse. This particular infection shohld have cleared up in two days but my previous symptoms are just as bad now as they were before, plus I now have a high fever. Fever has been with me eighteen hours now. Also, my tongue is swollen. Not 'a little poofy' swollen but 'i cant close my mouth and my teeth are cutting into it' swollen. Called the specialist, she is calling the swelling an allergic reaction to the med, so im starting a new med tonight. However, even though none of my original symptoms of infection have improved even a tiny bit she thinks my fever is something completely unrelated. Idiocy. She wants me to see my family doctor for this new and 'unrelated' condition. Gee Wilakers, what a coincedence! Called my family doctor, they want me to go to the ER, before I suffocate and die. (Im not going to suffocate, but they think I will) Much to their unhappiness i slurred at them that I cant afford the ER. I reminded them that Im a middle class American who spends all her money on a BS insurance policy that covers nothing and Im still trying to pay of medical debt from my children years ago. Im waiting on a call back that will probably never come, but at least I tried. So here I sit, sounding like all those kids who held their tongues and said 'apple' on the school playground, with a fever just over 101 wishing just one doctor gave a hoot.
On the bright side, this is great for controlling intake. Cant eat, and I can barely swallow fluids. Its not for the faint of heart, but effective nonetheless.
Sorry for the bitchfest, but I hurt and someone has to hear about it. Im going to escape into your journals now. I hope you are all well :-)

Sometimes I really hate this site. I wrote you a wonderful comment and the darn thing went into cyberspace. Bottom line to it was be careful.... those are not symptoms to play around with. i also went off on a rant about the medical profession and its reimbursement driven culture. But - no need to repeat that one I guess :) Get well soon

It sounds to me like you are experiencing an allergic reaction. Please do not risk your health and go to the ER. Hope you get better soon, praying for you.

YIKES! Calling Dr. House!! No, wait ... they nearly killed every patient too while they were figuring out the problem. Hope you find some relief soon. And yes, most are ... that's why they call their career a 'practice'.

Do you have one of those FastCare or QuickCare clinics near you? Sometimes they can't help depending on your symptoms but there's one near me where I can walk in (wait) and see a doctor for around $60. Soooo worth it. Otherwise try benadryl if you think it might be an allergic reaction, the antihistamine should help with the swelling. But be sure you aren't alone, because benadryl can put you to sleep, and if your tongue is still swollen... well none of us want you to be dying!

I hope you figure it out soon! I've had the same reaction to meds before too and it is more frustrating than anything. Don't let your fever get too high or you will end up in the ER. Beware of anything 103 and over. Try to keep hydrated too. I hope tomorrow is a better day!!

Okay... you claim you're not going to die. What if you wake up dead tomorrow? You'll be sorry then. Get to an outpatient emergency care center at least. Don't mess with it. Who's going to give us our daily smile with your rants if you die. Hop to it chickie.

Thank you my loves. My ob/gyn was not concerned with my swollen tongue, she just told me to rake benedryl. I most certaily did, and up till this very moment im still kickin. After a lengthly phone bitchfest with the doctors office they finally asked the doc what he thought and he will be seeing me one hour from now.My primary frustration was that the office staff wouldnt wven give me a chance,they wanted to send me to the ER so they wouldnt have to squeeze in one mpre patient at the end of the dauly. Glad the doc agreed with me, or i would have had to go to ER. If he says, Yolanda go to the ER before you die I will, but I hope he doesnt. I also hope he throws in a 'damn look how much weight youve lost' lol. Havent been down like this in I cant tell you how long. Saying a prayer Ill get some answers!

I agree with Classic.... OBGYNs don't normally specialize in fat tounge syndrome unless there is a really strange STD going on out there I have never heard of :)

That thought is simply too terrible, Steve. I will get well get on the mend stat. :-) Lol Alex, no weird stds causing fat tongues that I have come accross, but Ill start interviewing people with all my free time ive been spending in waiting rooms.
