Paige E's Journal, 01 December 2008

Well, I'm actually up a couple pounds. I weighed in and messed it up. But I'm not going to edit it. I'm taking it as a sign!!! ha! Besides, my fingers are really swollen this morning, so I know I have a lot of water weight.

I am going back to Inductions style this week. I know there is so much going on in the next few weeks, but this week is completely clear for me, so I don't have any additional challenges. I should be able to stick with Induction very well for the next seven days.

Last night one of my nieces came over and we put up part of my Christmas village. She is going to be five soon (Christmas eve, to be exact) and she was so fun last night. She helped me get the stuff out of the attic and sat on the floor for about an hour and unwrapped all the little things - the carolers, the newstand, the ice skaters and sledders, the street lights and wreath seller, the bell ringer and the shoppers. She described every piece as she unwrapped it - as if it was the best treasure in the world. Because she has a little sister that can walk this year - and because her uncle Chad now has a 70 lb puppie dog (!!!) - we decided to do the village on the table behind the sofa. We set up the school, with children playing in the school yard; the pond with ice skaters and ice fishermen; and a stream with a bridge and a horse drawn carriage. It is about 1/8 of what I have, but its all the table would hold.

Later, after her bath, I found Lauren sitting in the dark, leaning on the back of the couch, staring at the scene, her eyes sparkling, humming "Little Drummer Boy". It was so cute.

When it was time for her to go home, I let her take a little Santa and Reindeer set home that she had carried around with her all night. Its a miniture set that supposed to sit on the roof of one of the houses in the village. When I told her she could take it home, its as if I gave her the best gift ever. I said, "You can keep it tonight and bring it back tomorrow when we set up the rest of the village." You would have thought I gave her the world.

Lauren and I also decided that we need a little manger scene for the village, so she is going to help me shop for it. Because Christmas really is "baby Jesus' birthday party", as Lauren told me. She then asked me why we don't have birthday cake for the baby Jesus on Christmas. This is especially important to her because her birthday is Christmas Eve. So I told her mom last night that we should get a birthday cake this year and she thought perhaps that was a good idea. Lauren wondered if baby Jesus would like a princess party or a pirate party.

We had a fun evening. She is growing up so fast, it kind of makes me sad.

So, that was my exciting evening. Now the living room is a disaster area - gotta get the rest of it up today.

Kids that age are so much fun! At least she's got her prioritys straight, most of the kids I look after have been giving me a continuous list of things they want for about 3 weeks already. Good luck with your week! A clean slate sometimes is the best cure.
