Paige E's Journal, 22 November 2008

I'm pretty sure the weight gain was water weight while I was sick. Thanks for all the positive reassurances! Right after I wrote my journal yesterday, I noticed that my hands were swollen. I took a water pill and will again today - my blood pressure was also up, so the water pill helps with that, too.

Ate GREAT yesterday. Feelin in the groove again!

Pie baking day today. I have my dips started so I don't snack on bad stuff. But pie baking is easier than cookie baking - because its harder to sample the pies!! ha! My sister told me that she is really hungry for deviled eggs - so I have some eggs boiling, too. Great idea for snacking today! She is sometimes really smart!

My official plan is to be REALLY good until Thursday. And for the first time in about two months, I think I can do it!!

I was thinking this morning about how success at dieting is so much about planning. I think about food ALL THE TIME. Sometimes I get really sick of that. I constantly have to be thinking about the next meal - sometimes the next day! It seems like it is so much of my focus...does that ever change? How do skinny people do this?

So, I looked at the skinny people I know. One thing I've realized is that most of the skinny people I know are not the kind of people that "can eat anything they want". I think most people are not this way. In the past, I would have categorized my friend, Becky, like that. But if I really think about it - she doesn't eat a lot on a daily basis. Sure, I've seen her pig out on ice cream. But if I think about it, then she skips dinner because she's "so stuffed from earlier". This is true. And she will tell people, "I can pretty much eat anything I want." But in reality, she is naturally compensating for that. I don't even think she knows it. One time I was at her house and her kids asked for cookies that she had made the day before. She got them out and asked if I wanted one. I said, sure, (of course!!). I thought they were great and asked her if it was a new recipe. "Yes, it is," she said, "Are they good? I haven't had any yet." And she didn't have to think twice about that!!!

Then there is my friend, Sue. She is very slender - always has been. But she eats like a bird. We go out for lunch and she orders a side salad!!! So, there's no mystery there! When I've asked her about it, she has said, "I've never been a very big eater." She came to my family's house for Thanksgiving one year because she couldn't make it home. She ate only turkey and stuffing because those were her favorites. She got full and didn't even want any dessert. I think she had a piece of pie the next day!

So, if I really think about it...it's like they have a natural mechanism in them that I don't have - or that I need to retrain my mind into getting. Strange.

BREAKFAST
1 scrambled egg with 1 TBSP shredded cheddar = 2C
1 cup of coffee w/hc = 0C

LUNCH
Well, to be honest, I didn't really have lunch. I ate a little BLT dip, and a couple crackers, sampled the pumpkin bars, (I know, BAD!!) and a couple deviled eggs. All in all, I'd say about 20C

DINNER
fish = 0C
mayo = 0C
1 cup of salad with oil and vinegar = 2C
1 hushpuppy and 1 cookie = BAD CARBS!!!

TOTAL is not great - but I'm not too disappointed. It was a hard day and I think I did fine.

YAY for feelin' in the groove! And congrats on the 1 lb. loss! Deviled eggs.....YUM! YOU CAN STAY ON TRACK TILL THURSDAY! I have faith in you, Girl! I think you are right on target with the statement about your friends having a natural mechanism that controls their appetite. We who don't have that mechanism must work harder! It's not fair, but that's the way it is. The ones who do have this mechanism just can't possibly understand what we go through. That's why we need our FS friends to help us! YOU CAN DO THIS! I KNOW YOU CAN! Take it one day at a time and we'll get there! It might take a while, but we WILL do it! (((((HUGS)))))

You CAN definitely do Paige. I know what you mean about food taking up much of our thoughts but, if we didn't it would be taking up too much of our bellies! lol.
