I'm trying to make myself smarter as I travel, newname, so I look them up on the internet. Most of the time I can use the Google Photos app to ID them, but sometimes I have to search. I do it for animals too. I started doing it on Facebook for my friends overseas. Soon I started learning new things and enjoying it, and now I can't stop. For instance those barberries are edible and high in vitamin C. It's made into tarts and jam in parts of Europe and Asia. Natives of the Pacific Northwest who lived 3,000 to 6,000 years ago used it in a concoction to treat acne. Native Americans used it in a tonic to simulate appetite. With all these uses (and there are others), you'd think some farmer would have it as a crop here, but it's illegal to cultivate in parts of the US and Canada because it can spread a fungal disease that destroys wheat crops. Now you know, I'm a big nerd.

Lonnie, that is awesome!! I love learning about things like that! You are so smart. Reminds me of when I was a little girl and I traveled through parts of Ukraine with my grandparents in the summertime. We hiked a lot, fished, and foraged for mushrooms and berries. My grandma had all these books about mushroom and plant species that explained which were safe to eat, which were poisonous, and which could be used for healing purposes. I loved those books, still remember the amazing illustrations in them. How amazing that we can now use technology to help guide us through wild terrain. You just got even more awesome and I didn’t think that was possible. 💖😊
