Baileyrose85's Journal, 24 May 2013

I have been thinking a lot lately about how I need to get on here and journal. A lot of things have happened since my last journal in November. So a few extra minutes on a day off combined with a WTF moment on the scale this morning... here I am.

Got throught the holidays good. Fat but good.

January 2013 my mom went in for her second round of colon cancer surgery. She had a partial colectomy in January 2012. Now just a year later she was going in for a full colectomy. She was also diagnosed with Lynch Syndrome. Google it. Long story short, she is much more suceptable to certain types of cancer, including colon cancer. It's genetic.... a dominant gene. So at 58, my mother was not only dealing with a collectomy, but the possibility of having passed this doosy onto one of her kids. She got through the surgery ok. The douche bag doctor insisted on going in laperoscopy versus cutting her open as they have in the past. My mother is a big woman. Has been since she was 36. Years of depression, multiple surgeries removing all of her female parts due to cysts and the steriods taken during that time. We know from experience that laperoscopy DOESN'T WORK. So my mother was under for 12 hours, she came out of it with a weird laceration on her head, her phone diappeared 2 days later, sometime between when she was rushed back in for emergency surgery (yup they opened her up this time) and the following morning. The emergency surgry was a result of a presumed pin prick from the first surgery. Needless to say it had been stressful. They were able to connect the small bowel to the rectum so she didn't need a colostomy bag.

February was a big month. My fiance tirned 28. My sister in law to be found out she was preggo. Due in October. I am so happy for them as my BIL to be has been baby crazy since they were 18! Unfortunately with her being preggo came the question from my MIL to be... "What are you two doing about the wedding. I need to know if I am giving this money to you or using it on the new baby"... well maybe not in those exact words, but either way I was kinda pissed. Now we are taking on putting together a wedding in 6 months. And not some little backyard dealio or a destination wedding or the courthouse wedding that I was completely ok with... a 20K + huge production that my fiance wanted. Basically if we wanted our time in the spotlight we needed to rush it. The wedding, although getting very close is still a sore subject for me. Both the Fiance and the MIL inviting whoever they want, including people I have specifically said I didn't want there. Like his sisters bitch friend that invited HIM and not me to her wedding about 18 months ago.

Then the turning point.... at the end of February we had our work health screening. It was voluntary to get it done at work but we had to have screenings to get our insurance plans at a normal rate. Mine was as expected. Overweight but otherwise healthy. Ryan on the other hand who already has high blood pressure (runs in the fam BAD) his blood sugar was a 212!!!!!!! How was he up walking around. That day was the day that he started changing his life. Since Feb he has lost almost 40 pounds, cut back his drinking by about 3/4 of what he used to and is hiking and going to the gym constantly. Later I will post pics of the difference. It's CRAZY. I can put my arms all the way aroung him now. We go to the gym together. It's fun. Since then, I have lost about 20 lbs myself. I have stopped drinking anything with artificial sweeteners and most carbonated things (hi ball energy is my go to... carbonated water and grapefruit extract) and I have stopped eating gluten. I will tell ya, in the two weeks since I stopped eating gluten, my skin has cleared up, no more audilbe tummy, regular BM's (TMI I KNOW), all around, feeling pretty good.

Anyways.... gotta get moving and get the bug to school. Then my yearly physical and other errands. Gotta get some wedding stuff done. Only 71 days to go... big day is AUGUST 3rd!!

Have a good day buddies!!

Oh my gosh, talk about a lot of things happening - holy buckets!! Glad everything turned out well with your mom's surgery - scary stuff! Is there some genetic testing you can do to find out if you have the same syndrome? I suppose it's probably expensive.. Re: the wedding, I can relate!! I really didn't think we'd have ANY issues with the guest list, but we've had people trying to bring their new boyfriend's 2 kids, their significant other's 4 kids that we've never met, and RSVP for people that weren't invited.. Ugh.. Only 71 days until the wedding, that's exciting!!! Mine's coming up in 22 days, I can't even believe it! That's so great about your fiance making such awesome life changes and you guys being able to get healthy together!! Can't wait for some progress pictures!! :)

I actually lost part of the journal. I was tested in February. My insurance covered it. I am clear luckily. I take more after my dad genetically. My brother on the other hand takes after mom and doesn't have insurance so were going through the process of getting grants to cover it. Luckily there is support for this type of thing out here. I think the irst few cases were discovered out here. And yeah we didn't stuff, we wrote a nice little note with the invites explaining that our venue was small and unless plus ones were indicated to please check with one of us before inviting a date. Our invited were sports tickets and we put it in the fan letter. I think it was handled pretty tastefully, considering.
