Another day, another opportunity to indulge or go down the path less traveled. It's a day of reminiscing. Have you ever noticed that too much of anything makes the experience less enjoyable? For instance, if I indulge in large quantities of food, after the first few bites - however delicious it is - I'm eating just for the sake of eating. Another example: After working in the hot sun all day, nothing tastes better than a cold beer, and the second one tastes pretty good also. But, after that, I'm drinking just for the sake of drinking. Here it comes: even sex is the same way. Now, I'm not going to tell you that sex gets old; it's the one thing that doesn't. But I will tell you that deliberately going without for a while, actually makes the anticipation and the enjoyment so much better, especially for those that have fallen into the routine, "OK, it's time, I'm ready, let's get this over with; my show comes on at 9:00." :D Well, maybe you don't know anyone like that; that probably happens after menopause. I'm not saying I have ever experienced that, you understand. The point I'm making here is that when we overindulge in anything, we get to the point where the benefit isn't meeting expectations, and is most often more detrimental than beneficial.

I've settled into somewhat of a norm, eating the same things I love to eat, but eating less of them, and I'm enjoying it more, and seeing the weight begin to come off again. I haven't been doing it long enough for it to be considered a habit, but it is working, and I'm not craving food, or feeling sorry for what I've missed. I don't give up any major food group to accomplish the weight loss; I'm just exercising moderation, and moderation is becoming the norm. And I think, with me, the secret to success in that area, is staying busy. I have to stay away from the activities that lead to craving and munching. And for me, that is watching too much TV or being bored. I've got plenty of hobbies, honey-do's and chores to keep me distracted.

I gave my two cents worth in the first paragraph, so I guess I'm giving my quarter's worth. Toodles!
