kimmyjeanmiller's Journal, 17 March 2013

Very disappointed today, I weighed just now and I am up 1lb from last week. I don't know why either, I have stayed within my RDI below even and I still gained weight. The only thing I can think of that was different this week is I had a few days that I didn't get my water in. I am really dissapointed, but I am going to keep trying hopefully this next week will be better

It could be a temporary gain from water retention, especially if you've been eating salty foods like cheese and processed foods. Don't let it discourage you, your work will show!

Keep going, it's not entirely about the weight loss, changing bad eating habits to good eating habits counts for something too.

This is my 3rd attempt at writing/sending this so if you get multiple copies it is just me being computer stupid! Before you get totally down on yourself- think about what you would tell a patient if they called with a ONE pound gain. You would probably encourage them and praise them for all they had done RIGHT this week.. Hang in there- I know you have been working hard and next week will probably show it... ONE pound can be hormonal or water weight or even ( sorry if TMI) lack of a BM!! :) last week is history- focus on tbis week!

One thing I noticed from looking at your food journals is the amount of sodium you're having. That's probably what's keeping the scale from going down. I've been having the same issue the last couple weeks.. I've had way too much takeout with 2 to 3 times as much sodium as you're supposed to have in a day. The recommendation is 2400 mg a day, but it's a struggle unless you cook 100% of your food every day. I'm having a hard time keeping my sodium down, and I had never really realized how big of a difference that can make in what the scale says. Even if you actually are burning fat by consuming fewer calories than your RDI, the scale won't show a weight loss because the sodium makes you retain water. So like the others said, drink LOTS of water, keep it up with the healthy food, and watch the sodium. It WILL make a difference, I promise! :o)

And you shouldn't be disappointed...half the battle is changing your mindset, and you're already accomplishing that. That's a win in my book!!
