squigglywiggly's Journal, 02 August 2010

I woke up fat and ugly and depressed this morning. First time since starting losing weight. Have felt very grumpy and sad all day, and am annoyed that the scale hasn't moved for days now. It was going slowly but steadily down but now has stalled out. I will be changing up my exercise tomorrow to see if it helps but I just want to cry. I still have so far to go and today all I could see in the mirror was fat. Up until now I have been so positive.

Any words of advice on how to cope emotionally when the fat gets stubborn?

Be proud. You have lost 15 lbs and that is not easy to do. Also, a stall is better than a gain! Not to mention, a plateau or even brief "pause" is very common. Remember to focus on how you FEEL, not how you might see yourself in the mirror. Don't get upset with your body... it is working hard to be healthier. And this takes time. But you are moving forward, and never going back. Hope your day gets better, Squiggly. We are all here for you.

Thanks RedHolly. I think I usually give up when I stall but not this time. I was out most of yesterday so my food wasn't normal - I never usually have so much protein!

Squiggly, I have to agree with RedHolly - be proud for all that you have already accomplished. Learning how to cope with stalls is going to be one of the most important things you can do for yourself. Be sure to compare your measurements. Just because the scale isn't moving doesn't mean you aren't losing inches. Another think you might want to consider...putting the scale away and only weigh in once a week. Just because you didn't lose for a couple days doesn't mean you wont lose in a week. Your doing great! Be proud.

Squiggly I know exactly how you are feeling. I have been there a few times and had to fight getting down right depressed about it. Thank God for the people here though! They helped me understand that during stalls your body is adjusting to the loss so you are losing inches Low and behold when I measured myself I was amazed! SO please don't give in to the negative be proud of yourself and KNOW that YOU will get to your goal! We are all here for you!!
