RiverRes's Journal, 07 January 2013

I had a disturbing experience while exercising yesterday. Doing jumping jacks caused my tummy to move so much that it actually slapped my body. This has never happened before. I know I have been fat for a really long time, but I have never had this occur where an audible "slap" sound could be clearly heard. It was eye opening.

I know that I have a lot of extra skin from being big for so long and I do recognize that no one can be 75 pounds over their ideal weight for nearly 15 years without consequence. I just wasn't prepared to hear that slap sound. I was hoping that by working my abdominals, I would have a chance at tightening up and just having a "pouch". I have a lot to learn. As I age, the elasticity disappears. I may have waited too long.

Regardless, I am going to continue my program and just live with it. I may eventually elect for surgery to deal with the flap. However, I first need to reach my goal weight and then some before that happens. I will need to maintain my new life style for at least two years before I can even consider it. I will have to be in a place where abdominal exercise is not something I dread. I can't get big again, because the skin will never recover - it is an organ, too, after all.
