Ceebee's Journal, 10 June 2010

Ok I know I said I was not going to weigh in until 19 of june.. because I felt so down in the dumps and could not take another blow. Well I started my TOM yesterday :P and I have not smoked in 3 or so weeks.. (I have lost track)I have stayed quit.. and I did it cold turkey.. I still have a "productive cough" but I can swallow with out mind numbing pain and my ears no longer hurt and my stuffy nose it gone.. so really just left with the cough... so today I was going over all of that and decided to get on the scale and be nice to myself if it was back in the 220's because of the TOM and the not smoking.. so any way just got my numbers 218.. not to shabby that is a lb down from last weigh in.. I dont get it all my clothes feel so snug and what not.. but maybe my scale is broken.. I have no idea.. but I am back on the wagon ladies and gents! I hope you all have a good day... (I would have been back on the wagon even if I was in the 220's I am just glad I was not) :)

I have to say that of all the things that you are doing for your health, quitting smoking is the best. I quit 2 years ago this past March, and I, too, did it cold turkey after smoking for about 35 years, with a few small breaks slong the way (pregnancies). Ran out of cigarettes one afternoon, was too lazy to drive to town to get more, and so quit. Didn't even tell anyone for 3 days. Ad they didn't notice!!! I always went outside to smoke. I smoked about 1-1/2 packs a day. But changing your way of eating and quitting at the same time??????? I gave myself 2 years before I started working on my other health problem-my weight!!! You are truly strong and, as a result, there is no doubt in my mind that you WILL SUCCEED. Congrats on the loss while nasty old TOM is visiting!

That is absolutely fabulous...I am so happy for you! Quitting smoking was the best thing that I ever did for myself and I can't imagine picking them up again (even though I do occassionally have dreams that I'm smoking). The weight loss is awesome too but quitting will give you a whole new lease on life. My weight has also been down but my clothes feel tight too due to bloating. That's good though because that means when TOM is gone...the snugness will be too. Congratualtions on taking such a huge step to improve your health; you ROCK!

Thanks everyone.. I feel pretty good about quitting.. no more sneaking around like a little thief casing my house.. trying to smoke and not get caught.. I dont feel the physical urges to smoke anymore.. but sometimes I still get the "time to smoke" urge.. like when I am driving my car alone.. or after the kids have gone to bed.. but I no longer feel bananas about it.. like I did the first two weeks.. The other day I was looking for my hidden pack in my husbands car while driving and I was like.. wth are they?.. oh wait.. I quit.. :) and like I said it was not a "omg I need a smoke" it was just "no kids in the car.. I just as well have a smoke" so I opted for a sucker instead. :) and I have to say they have helped with the keeping my hands busy and they are pretty good.. they are some kind of organic fruit juice suckers. 5 suckers are only 70 calories and they are good flavors. http://www.wholeandnatural.com/servlet/the-35/Yummy-Earth-Organic-Fruit/Detail

Nice to find some fellow ex-smokers here! I quit a yr & a half ago & it took me until a couple of weeks ago to feel comfortable enough to really start working on my weight. The hardest part of letting go of food is that it tastes so much better now than it did when I smoked! I'm trying to capitalize on that though, by exploring healthy alternatives of things I like & experimenting with different herbs & spices. One thing I wish I had started doing long ago is using fresh herbs vs. dried. Same goes for fresh lemon juice vs. bottled, fresh broccoli vs. frozen etc etc. The flavor & texture are so much better using fresh ingredients & I'm discovering that eating healthy can be delicious! Not only that...walking away from a DELICIOUS meal minus the guilt makes it even more satisfying. Congrats on the quitting, the cough will pass soon enough & the more you see how other people look (& smell!) when they smoke, the more proud you will be of yourself that you aren't a victim of that addiction anymore. BTW, replacing smoking with knitting has worked wonders for me. :)
