Evenstar's Journal, 16 April 2008

Yesterday was hubby's birthday. I planned ahead, picked food that was low in points for dinner (Chinese, and with shrimp as the main meat, and nothing fried). When the food got here, I set aside reasonable portions for leftovers... then I went ahead and ate everything, including all the leftovers. I ate so much that I was in pain the rest of the night and had to go to bed early.

Bad, bad me.

But, in a way, I guess it's a valuable lesson... I had forgotten just how uncomfortable overeating could be, while hunger is frequent enough to remind me not to undereat. Today is a new day... on we go.

We've all been there, done that... so don't be too hard on yourself. I find it really helps me to slow down my eating, putting the fork (or chopsticks!) down between bites and really enjoying my food, bite by bite. If you eat slow enough, your brain will have time to receive the "full" signal from your tummy before you overeat and you will be more likely to stay in control and not overeat. But you have it right... today is a new day. Keep at it. You can do this!

Absolutely chopsticks! I love them. They used to be a way to slow down eating while still being fun, but I've gotten really good at using them, so they're no hinderance anymore... which is both good and bad. :)
