Okay, I want to try to hold myself accountable so I'm trying this. I'm less than a week into college and want to lose weight and definitely don't want to gain any. I've got a sweet tooth and love food in general and am bad at portion control.

I feel your pain! Sugar was my main food group most of my life! For me it was more than a sweet tooth- it was an addiction. I craved sugar all the time, had to have dessert after every meal, & sweets in between for snacks. What I did to kick off my weight loss was cut sugar out of my diet COMPLETELY for just 3 weeks. Twenty-one days. I didn't think I could do it, but I did! I figured a person can do anything for just 3 weeks. It was really super hard the first week, & I got headaches, irritable, & really tired. But then I felt empowered knowing I had the self-control I never thought I had! I felt like if I could do this, I can do ANYTHING! Now my daily calorie intake is so much lower, just from eliminating empty sugar calories. You're doing AWESOME though!!!! Look @ you! You already lost 150 lbs! That's a whole adult! Keep up the good work!

I just looked back at my weight tracker on my iPod and realized that a few days before this "weigh in" (just an estimate), I was 142.5 so this was an overestimation. To Rachel, yeah, I'm very used to having a lot of sugar. My dad likes rich meals so it seemed like most nights I was having either some kind of chocolate torte/mousse/cake or a slice of cheesecake (after a meal that was usually red meat). Now that I'm at college (and a very eco-friendly one at that), I'm planning to be more in charge of what I eat (so far it's been one week without dessert unless you count the popcorn at a movie)! And while I wish I was successful enough to be able to lose 150lb (if I had it), I've been constantly up and down for almost four years and my highest weight (recorded) was 156. But between my current weight loss and your encouragement, I'm now really determined to cut out sugar (now how to make myself like non-starchy vegetables?).
