GlennM's Journal, 19 May 2010

I'm doing well, finally my hoarse voice is going away. It is raining here again no way to get any exercise in. I will go to the nearest place to get boxes to start packing things I'm going to keep and leave at my twin sister's house. (Music CDs, some books I can't sell and one big picture that cost some money I'll have sent out there). I will have some tag sales this summer probably. In a way it is good to have a cold as one's appetite is diminished. I saw the doctor yesterday, that was what he said I had, it has been a long one though, I think it is related to allergies and my friend Debbie told me when she lived in Arizona she had no allergy symptomps as there is little in the way of allergens as it is desert there.
Tuesday word of the day: vitiate -verb- FORMAL- to spoil or to impair the quality or efficiency of. ALSO to destroy or impair the legal viability of.------------------------ Word is of Latin origin.
Wednesday word of the day: truckle 1. -noun- a small-shaped cheese, usually cheddar.--------Word is of Middle English and French origin.
truckle 2. -verb- usually truckle to - submit or behave obsequiously. Origin believed to be from truckle bed, a low bed on wheels (chiefly British), that can be stored under another bed...

I imagine you have chosen Arizona because of the dry weather Glenn, but I'm not too sure about this. When you were in L.A. did you get out to Palm Springs at all? I'm pretty sure you've ruled it out for some reason but just wanted to touch on the subject. It's a beautiful town. I like Better than Bouillon (Chicken) for colds, it works well for me. I hope you feel better soon!

Palm Springs is too small for me, and is earthquake territory and I'm done with California. I am feeling a lot better today. I really think this is allergy related, so the sooner I move the better. Also, I'm done with these small alternative lifestyle towns, I was flipping the channels and some celebrity was on getting a star on Palm Springs boulevard at a pride parade. There's one here too in my hometown, and it is extremely difficult for a guy looking for a woman in Northampton, Mass. - my hometown - who is low income. This is per capita the #1 altternative lifestyle town for women in the USA and county too. I need to live in a city, thanks for the advice though. :)

I was wondering, is there a lot of dust in Arizona, you know what with the desert sand and all? This may not be the best for someone with allergies. I am a big fan of Vitamin C for colds, along with Zinc. When co-workers start talking about how bad they feel I immediately start up the C and Zinc and B-vitamins. I take extra C and B-Vitamins anyway and rarely get sick. A little more now that I have grandchildren and they sneeze and cough all over everything (LOL) but the immune system needs that boost to fight off the bad germs. Hope you feel real good soon and that the weather changes for you so you can get "moving".

Also, info there is a safety net to get me started to move to AZ. There is a Veteran's Administration Hospital system there and a shelter system for veterans there. In places like Palm Springs I have no assets to move there to get started out remember. In Phoenix I can get into the V.A. shelter system until they help me find adequate housing. I have thought this over. I am not moving back to where I had a career once I can no longer do it would make me feel depressed (my CA nursing career). I got boxes today to start packing things for storage, and Bruce told me I can get good boxes at work for free on Friday night and I will to get me started next week on really getting the ball rolling on getting the first thing done - things I'm keeping getting them stored. No one is dissuading me from this and my family is nonexistent in my life basically so they surely have no say in what I do with my future and I'm not getting any younger. I know I'm doing the right thing... And with the nice winter weather I'll be able to keep my weight down in the winter to exercise...

Next Number - my friend Debbie's allergies went away while she lived in AZ. They promptly returned upon her arrival back in W Mass. I take B and C and D and I have an allergy cold that is abating. I will be fine. I am doing things now - five or six months ahead of time to leave so I am ready when I go. This will be the best thing for me, I know it...

I understand, I just mentioned it because it also has the dry dessert climate and is fairly close to L.A. and the coast. I just wanted make sure you had considered it; but, I clearly hear what you are saying about the V.A. shelter system, the saftey net, etc.

Anyway, the desert is also in AZ, and I would be too far from the V.A. system in L.A. if I was in Palm Springs - I've never been there. Perhaps I've been through there on a bus to Las Vegas eastward - but I don't know if the buses go through Palm Springs or not on that route. I'm ready to leave now but am going to do lots of planning and put things on the Internet including craigslist and also tag sales and put it all in a separate account just for moving. I don't plan on staying another winter here...

Glen: When I mention Palm Springs, I am not only referring to the town of Palm Springs itself. The area includes Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Dessert, Indian Wells, Indio, and several other towns which I've missed. It's quite spectacular and not really small. However, you have given me your reasons and they are good ones. On the other hand, I felt that you should know more about this area just as a point of reference.

Info - I have NO intention of moving to a small town that is an alternative lifestyle town. I saw one of the crazier celebrities getting her star on one of their boulevards during a pride parade. It was chaos to me, and we have the parade here in my hometown. I don't drive and need to live in a city for the bus system. And also when I get there I need to get in the veteran's homeless shelter system ASAP for long-term help. I can't do that in some small town in CA. I have very little money, but will be going with a lot more than I went to Hawaii or Los Angeles with, which was nothing, and I survived just fine. I can't go to some spa town with no money and no job and the ability to really do nothing but minimum wage jobs if I can even get that with my health the way it is. I am going to Phoenix and no one is talking me out of it, and it will be for the best. I can't go back to CA, I no longer have a nursing license there...

P.S. the star was on TV getting her star recently, I haven't been to Palm Springs...
