strawberry1972's Journal, 11 February 2008

Well, I think that this is a start. I am new to FatSecret and I am very happy about this program. I am looking forward to meeting new friends and getting the support I need to get to my goal weight. I have been really working hard at it for the last 12 months so far, and I have been really struggling in the last four months to even get just a little bit of weight off!

I have some really supportive friends, and I am looking forward to meeting new friends in my circle:)

I am also on Facebook as well, so just go ahead and add me if you'd like:)

If anyone has any tips on what I should be getting on my first ATKINS grocery shop tomorrow, let me know please:)

Hi and welcome! The key is VARIETY and PLANNING AHEAD. I mean it. Get a great variety of vegetables and proteins that you enjoy. Prep some things that you can so you will have things to grab on the go. Make sure you read Dr.Atkins New Diet Revolution if you haven't already because it is a great resource. Good luck. Message me anytime.

Thanks Sara! I will keep that in mind. What proteins do you suggest? I see that carbs are out...so does that mean that pita bread is out too?

If you don't have the Atkins book right away, the web site is great. www.atkins.com. It gives you the basic can and cannot have list for the 2 week induction. Sararay is right about variety though, it is real easy to get bored if you don't plan your menus. It's amazing though at how many recipes you can come up with with the Atkins allowed list. Oh, yea, on induction, ALL Bread is out, so is ALL Fruit. You have to really read lables as well.

Eggs are a favorite for me. I make up a half a dozen hard-boiled at a time because my husband grabs them for quick snacks too. Cubed chicken is good, you can keep it in baggies for a couple days. Try to stay away from processed meats. I try not to eat too much cheese, but it is a good source of protein. It is really important that you understand this diet or it can be dangerous if done wrong. If done correctly it is very healthy, though. Start off just cutting starches and fruit, and in the meantime read the book. You'll then be a step ahead detoxing from carbs and you'll be fully prepared to do induction.
