YES. I JUST got off predisone. It caused a 10 lb gain that took 3 weeks to shake. Ignore it. Once your off it the weight will be gone. And when I say I just got off it, literally a week ago.. the benefits of the medication out way the temp weight gain .. so dont focus on that. Just watch what you eat. Bc it made me hungrier than a bear at a picnic.. LOL

I gained 10 lbs in one month.. I thought I ate too much.. But, now reading about this medication I was on I'm wondering if it was the cause.

Prednisone is synthetic cortisol, really an excellent drug. However, when cortisol is elevated, you don't burn fat at all, you simply store more water/fat. Don't stop taking it, this too shall pass. As a "Pop Quiz" Name the other time of day that Cortisol is naturally at it's highest?.. (Jeopardy music playing).... Answer? First thing in the morning. Cortisol is our fight or flight hormone. With Cortisol elevated in the morning, glucose stores flood the body with ready energy and we are able to get up and about and get things done. It's also why mornings are the worst time to eat any carbs, as the incoming sugar is more readily converted and stored as fat than at any other time of day.

Yes, yes, yes...I blow up because I had to take it for a long time. I continued to workout and eat well and when I got off of the medication, the weight began to come off. Stay on your diet and exercise plan and know that the side affects of the medication will be temporary.

Yes, I think nearly everyone gains weight on prednisone. Be sure you follow your doctor's instructions about getting off of it, usually you need to taper off rather than just quitting. It is a great drug for what it does, but has some really nasty side effects (note I am NOT saying not to take it if needed, just that you need to be aware of effects.)

@pandasmom...agreed, taper off of any steroids, should never just quit them.

Yes! Taper off of the prednisone - your weight will return to normal after you complete your protocol. follow your doctors order and take the medication as prescribed - it is only a temporary bump.
