I think more people should think of a Thanksgiving feast as a joyous sharing of a meal rather than a competition to ingest as much as possible 😉😂 I know my mom never fed us much before Thanksgiving dinner because she didn't want us to "spoil our appetites." Exact quote. Glad it was good, and may your health journey continue! 😃

writingwyo agreed . Dinner was mid afternoon this year so had to skip lunch to actually be hungry to eat

For many years, the diet foods industry put out a scare press release about how the average person ate 3,000 calories at Thanksgiving dinner and 10,000 calories for the day. I started adding it up once and could NOT figure out how they came up with that figure. The amount of food I had to put on my imaginary plate to hit 3,000 sounded sickening. I finally found how they calculated it, and it involved a huge breakfast, snacking all day on chips, nuts and eggnog, and 2 full slices of pie. No way I could eat all that, nor would I want to!

Happy Thanksgiving OTB!

The food industry is basically correct. What the average American eats at Holliday meals EASILY hits the 3000 calorie mark and much more if you consider the pre thanksgiving snacks of chips and dips, beer or other alcoholic beverages. Really disgusting.

Not to mention pie, whipped cream or ice cream and then the post dinner snacking. Doesn’t miss 10,000 by far.

I have worked ER on enough holidays and day after Hollidays to have taken care of hundreds of post indulging heart attacks.

well I'm far from the one ending up in the er with a heart attack but I did eat an estimated 2200 calories for Thanksgiving dinner if i was drinker that could have easily went over 3000. Food was great and both peices of pie were great also...Guess I'm a fat ass 🤷 who knows but I also had 14k steps yesterday and lifted weights that morning so I think I'll be alright.

More than one meal causes a heart attack imo. It’s the other 364 days of the year that matter!

I haven't tried to calculate my calories yet but I know they're up there. I sampled & nibbled on the appetizer choices, had a full plate for dinner. A bit later I had dessert...an apple dumpling & a small slice of pecan pie. There was also Sangria to drink & a nice Riesling for dinner. One of the reasons calories are high is due to ingredients in traditional Thanksgiving dishes. I definitely ate more than usual & was very full but I don't think I ate what I'd consider a " disgusting" amount.

It's definitely a cumulative thing like Wifey said, however, if you have high blood pressure or diabetes and decide to take a day off from watching your sodium or sugar intake, that 3,000-10,000 kcal day could be the straw that breaks the camel's back. Not to mention the leftovers and the remaining 3 days off where you can continue to "vacation eat." Plus more holiday parties with more alcohol (which lowers inhibitions to put down the fork).

So right Wifey! If you eat well most days, indulging a bit on Holidays won't hurt. The problem is when you eat Holiday portions daily!

Normally I don't Care where these posts take a wild turn for but today I'm going to say take it somewhere else... everything being said doesn't pertain to me yes my weigh went up who the hell cares! I doubt many people got up hit the weights then did a shit load of walking skipped lunch and hit their calorie goals yesterday... I did so give it a rest or take it somewhere else

Sorry OTB 😞 My intention was to support you in that when you live a healthy lifestyle (like you), you can afford to take a day & just enjoy it. No guilt ❤️

Sorry! I think that was my fault, and I can only apologize. I do consider Thanksgiving a wonderful day to enjoy with family and not stress so much over food. Glad you had a good one, otb, and please forgive me.
