So here's a little secret about me. I don't like to exercise. I don't mind being active....busy doing stuff. That's why working in the gardens is enjoyable for me. But actual exercise...nuh uh...don't care for it. That's why I put it out there I'm challenging myself to move beyond just maintaining my weight. I texted my daughter yesterday my beginning photo & stats & told her what I was doing. That way I'm more inclined to stick with it. Already today I came upstairs to exercise & got distracted. BUT....I just made myself do it! Honestly, once I get started it's not so bad. Maybe I can stick with it long enough to actually make it a habit...like eating better has become.

I made Hubby a chicken sandwich for lunch. I told myself if I go do my exercises, I'd make one for myself. So that's where I'm headed 😋

I had an Amazon giftcard from my son & daughter in law for Mother's Day & I've been trying to decide how to use it. I ordered a new umbrella for our deck table. The old one was ready to go so we pitched it this year. I'm happy...it's red & I love red Umbrellas 😁⛱🌞 It's supposed to arrive tomorrow.

Sirloin steaks for dinner. Since Hubby can put them on the grill, easy for me!

What kind of exercise have you been doing? I'm convinced there's a form of exercise for everyone. I don't understand people who say they hate running because I love it. Love dancing as well. On the other hand, I don't feel much about resistance training --- I believe in the benefits as demonstrated by the research, just don't love it, merely accept I'll do it to if I want to retain LBM. Cardio on machines, I find practically intolerable. Stretching/yoga/pilates, I want to smack someone. Anyway, perhaps you just haven't found the form of exercise that gets you excited. It's just great that you've set up a routine and have declared your intention to your daughter.

Since what I'm trying to do is whittle a couple of inches off my waist & tummy, I'm doing exercises targeting those areas plus some leg & arm exercises. I have never been a runner. I blamed it on my big boobs for a long time, but now that they're smaller I still feel no urge to pick up the pace 😏 I've never been especially athletic. I do enjoy dancing but choreographed moves stump me. Other than a few months of playing volleyball @ the Y when my daughter was an infant & a few months of an aerobics class in my late 20's I can't pinpoint many organized exercise events.

I attribute staying in shape before retirement to a busy job in high volume retail clothing stores. Hustling in Heels can make a pretty good workout!

I used to hate working out SO MUCH! I'm still not a fan of ab day but I actually enjoy going to the gym now. For me, working out at home is just boring and I lose my drive and mindset. If you go to a gym, you're way more likely to actually complete the task you set for yourself. I suggest going to planet fitness. I absolutely love it. I'm a black card member but their basic membership is super cheap, its only 10 bucks and no commitment!

The Lord knows, I know exactly how you feel, I've recently started working out, at my size, have been very un-active for years it's painful!! and tough, at least you're still active so that's good. God bless you.

Sherry, that's very interesting. The conventional wisdom has been "abs are made in the kitchen" and that if you just lose enough fat (often by getting to an unheathily and unsustainably low body fat percentage of 14-16% for women), you'll see your abs because everyone has them. I've been pleased to see that recently, there is a school of thought that, while, yes, nutrition matters and your body fat percentage probably has to be on the lower end, you can a nice midsection at a healthy body fat percentage (say, 20% for women) if you build up the muscles there, like you would any other muscle in your body. I'm currently trying it out myself - aiming to lose a bit more fat while adding hypertrophy-style training specifically for the abdominal muscles a few times a week. We'll see if it works.

I think I'm in the minority with my love for running ;-)

LC, you may be in the minority on FS. I don't think most overweight people are runners. Some as they work their way back to being healthier decide it's a good way to get there. There are a lot of people out there that love running. I'm not sure how successful I'll be, even with targeted exercise. If I could eliminate the stretched out skin covering my tummy (lower abdomen) , it would be almost flat. A tummy tuck might be the only remedy & that's not happening. I am hoping building up some underlying muscle will help.

You're right, Sherry, I see other runners and know they exist, I just don't know them. I also follow/listen to a lot of people who are into bodybuilding, and most are very cardio-averse with running being considered one of the worst forms if you're trying to maximize hypertrophy. I hope that building up the muscle works too.

LC girl bless you for enjoying running lmao I always say...if you see me running, you probably should too because I'm not doing it for fun 😂😂

No workouts, 64 yo, female...so how much would your intake be? Maybe around 1000-1200kcal? I took a look at your diet calendar and..i was shocked! Over the months averaging 1900 kcals with perfectly balanced macros !!! Obviously you have a high NEAT, your own kind of non gym work outs. *Perfect* !

That made me laugh @amberlynexo 😂I love the improved mood from running, the running itself, and being able to eat a bit more because I find it easier to increase activity (to a point) than cut calories a lot.

Tassos, my daily "work out" has been a daily walk in our neighborhood for awhile. It is about a 30 minute walk but is up & downhill....our steep driveway and the roads in the neighborhood. I live in a 2 story house, I park further out in parking lots, I garden in the warm weather.... so I burn a few extra calories that way. I do try not to be sedentary but I'm trying to up the activity more for health reasons. I can tell I have some arthritis in my knees. Hopefully I can help slow that down.

Amberley, that describes me perfectly! 😁
